Dunsborough Flats

Mon, 2020-01-13 13:44

Was down there across the new year period and I got a few good whiting fishing the flats smack bang in front of the Dunsborough town centre. I've tried further out towards the cape a couple of times without much luck. I was just standing on the sand islands and casting in to the shallows. Was too windy for the poppers on the light gear but have heard that this also works well on the flats there.

Around the rocky and reefy areas out towards the cape I have done pretty well on the herring just flicking a twisty lure off the rocks.

Rocky point

Rocky point at the southern end of Bunker bay should be starting to produce salmon trout and herring with whiting on the sand patches in closer to Bunkers

 I was down at Bunkers

I was down at Bunkers today.... didn't have my fishing rod, but saw a couple of very large looking fish, barrelling through the shallows.  Too early for Salmon, or are there few year long residents down that area?

Salmon

Could be a few resident fish that have stayed behind from last years back run.

Quite often we would get a few late returners in with schools of salmon trout on their way south while pro netting down that way at this time of the years. The area around Rocky Point holds them for some reason
