The Busso Jetty Report - Easter Edition

This is a report for all the FW members who will be heading down this weekend and going for a fish from the jetty. Bonito are still around in good numbers from the bend all the way to the end and are on the chew in the late arvo/early evening and even after dark. Tailor numbers are steady but they are not numerous like they were in Jan, you can still pick up a good feed though, some real stoinkers over 50cm have been in the mix also. Tailor have been coming on the bite from about 6 pm onwards. Squid numbers are steady, a good feed can be had if you work for it. Herring are thick at the moment with bag limits easily being reached. There are plenty of medium sized Snook around, they become a bit of a annoyance but make good bait for the herring and tailor. Crab numbers are down on the jetty, if you are after them you are better off scooping along the beaches. Two Spanish Mackerels have been landed on the jetty in the last couple of weeks so you may be in for a chance at hooking one. There have been a few sharks hanging around out towards the end on some nights, a 5 ft tiger gave almost everyone a run one night last week. There has been a heap of rays hanging around so try and avoid the bottom.

That is all for now, have a safe long weekend, tight lines and enjoy.

I was out there around 11am

Wed, 2013-03-27 15:15

I was out there around 11am to 3pm on sunday and had a young bloke tell

me ( and few witnesses) that he was bonito Fishing and landed 2

but then he hooked a striped tuna , he said it would of been

around 70- 80 cm mark, but he lost it on the surface.

dunno how true this young bloke was, said he got it on the old smiling jack

Is this possible jetty rat?

Great report once again, thanx

I know the young fella you are talking about, had a discussion with him about it, more than likely it was a large bonito since there have been some larger ones around in the mix. Yet again nothing surprises me with fishing these days. There has however been reports from the train driver that there has been a few blue fin hanging around in the morning. Bonito will hit smilin jacks.

Crabs will be slow until May, they've generally finished shagging by then and looking to put on some weight.

Cheers

Hey thanks for the report as always JR

THinking of coming down Monday afternoon for an evening of chucking out lures and then maybe some mulies. Picked up a new graphite 7ft-er so want to try that out :)

Is there any point of using lures once the lights go out?

Better off with baits at night. I like to throw lures around just before sunset they work quite well at that time of day and the good thing is you have no troubles with the trumps. I will be out there if I am not off chasing those mystical salmon.
