Buy - Sell / Swap - Trade filter
Submitted by till on Fri, 2010-12-17 11:04
I know that they have something like this at bloody decks, but the idea is a dropdown menu to add the prefix of for sale, for trade, wanted to buy, EOI.
Its to help people that don't post a lot and may not remember to say what kind of post they're putting up. Recent examples might be the post simply labeled "Expressions of Interest" or the one "Daiwa 13'8'' moonraker".

filter
Its just an idea and this forum seems the most appropriate for discussing site features.
Actually at bloody decks, people have no choice, and as they say, choice is overrated. I can't really see anything bad about knowing that people either want to buy, or sell a specific object, can you?
Its a pulldown so that people have to let other board members know if they're buying, selling or whatever. It has the bonus that you can elect to view the board with the same filter, ie; if you're buying, only see FS ads.

Hmm!
i think a certain number of people will look at everythying in the sale/swap section regardless of the heading as they like to browse, if they are looking for a specific item wont they just do a search? I wouldnt think the topic would make that much difference in that section, whereas in the fishing chatg section boring subjects will stand out if headed correctly and people wont bother...me included, having said that being able to edit our own post would be good (adam) as sometimes we may wish to change things a bit i.e my 'expressions of interest' post

People that are going to read
People that are going to read everything will read everything /anyway/ and there have been quite a few unclear posts lately.
I'm not sure if its just the recent database work, but usually you can edit your posts after the date.

Not a bad idea, but the thing
Not a bad idea, but the thing that would be best is delete old sold item threads, hard to find something at times or a for sale item with a expiry date of 3 weeks then gets deleted, helps keep things fresh.

Actually the ausfish system
Actually the ausfish system isn't bad in that respect. It gives you a template and it automatically expires listings too. Not sure if anyone has written an equivalent classifieds module for drupal though.

edit
Very strange you have an edit option Till, no one else should have it either. Edit option is a tool for trolls that say one thing and set people up for a response, go back and then edit their original post to make the folllowing posters looks like idiots for people that are reading into the discussion later down the track. Seen it many times and its better that people take the time to get their posts right the first time and if there are double posts then the mods will fix it.
Cheers for the links Till, will look into it.
