Buying a boat from rural areas
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2015-05-21 20:56
I've been keeping an eye on a fibreglass boat in Albany with a 1998 hull and 2004 motor.
I am still a few grand from making a serious enquiry but when I am thereabouts can anyone offer me advice on how I should make sure it is all above board in regard to hull, outboard and trailer condition before I start talking turkey and look to head down for a look and ocean test?

i think your better off
i think your better off saving your money and then when your ready, go down and have a look at it first, take it for a sea trial, if it suits your needs get an inspection done by a qualified professional. i would personally do all that before i even think about arranging a price.

Cheers mate. Was thinking
Cheers mate. Was thinking more along the lines of seeing if I can pay a local in the boat game to do a quick inspection for me to see if it's worth the drive down to inspect further

I would do it the other way
I would do it the other way round. It's only Albany 5 hour Drive. 2 tanks of fuel to look at a boat you may hate straight away as apposed to a couple hundred for mechanic to have a look then you have to drive down and look anyway
I looked at a few boats before the one I settled on hated them as soon as I looked at it.

Yeah I suppose, especially as
Yeah I suppose, especially as work pays for my fuel and then I take my brother and it becomes a boys weekend fishing trip. I've always had it in my head that Albany is 7 hours away, must have been how long it took on the bus for year 7 camp

I drove up to Geraldton once
I drove up to Geraldton once to look at a boat that sounded perfect with all the fruit. Got there and it was an absolute pig of a thing. I'm glad I went for the drive and made a weekend of it anyway. What looks good on paper and glossy pictures taken from a distance isn't always what you get.

Mate, when you see the boat
Mate, when you see the boat you have been waiting for - go for it.
I drove from Karratha to Kattaning to look at my Coraline - 1800kms.
Lots of low hour boats sitting in sheds on farms all over the wheatbelt.
