My old camera, a canon ixus, only 3.2mp but was a damn good camera has died, looks like its been dropped, but when I asked if anyone had dropped it or done something, it was met with the normal, I dont know dad, yeah yeah, ok. Anyway, the wife asked if I wanted a new one for xmas, wow, does a one legged duck swim in circles? You bet. Anyway, thought long and hard and have settled on another Canon IXUS, an IXUS 200 IS, 12.1 Megapixels, all the fruit including a touch screen. Bring it on Santa!!

olympus
Dunno how much you are spending, but I have had my eye on the olympus with similar specs to the canon, but they are shock and waterproof to a limit.
I think theyre around $300.
just my two cents

do not touch the olympus.
do not touch the olympus. Unless they have made huge improvements in the last year. Ours has been back 3 times and is broken again, photo quality is average. We bought a new ixus and the difference is night and day in photo quality. Obviously don't do underwater, but as far as drop proof goes, bar an accident how often have you dropped your camera in your lifetime - I never have so I decided it was not an issue.

Hmm, just for the same
Hmm, just for the same story, but backwards.
My brother had a canon and it failed. They're notorius for blaming anything but their own cameras for why they don't work and they wouldn't honour the warranty. He went and bought an olympus and seems happy with it.
The current lumix takes way better shots than either of them, but it isn't waterproof.

Lumix is the
preferred point and shoot of a lot of Pro Photographers and enthusiasts.
Just one more cast , honest !!!

Can anybody tell me where
I can get my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 flash fixed. When I go into the menu the Flash is on auto but doesn't work when needed. Think old fart's foot must have come into contact with it when I had it sitting on the floor of the 4x4 one evening after using the camera.
I've had excellent usage out of mine and think I've had it for about 5yrs now. It cost me about $600 back then.

Completely power it down
Remove the battery and leave it overnight
Then replace the battery and it will re-initialise hopefully fixing the problem - mine had the same problem and it fixed it (I got the same advice from a mate)

I got the MJU-8000 and have
I got the MJU-8000 and have only used it a few times but happy with it and the quality. Also got the underwater housing and used it last weekend and pics / vid were excellent. Also bumped into someone a few days ago that has had one for about 6 months and has had no issues at all. He had a few tips after using it underwater but that was it.
