Can anyone add more to this?

Today at about 14:00 hrs we stopped at “Salt on the beach” café, North Fremantle. Seated so we could watch the wild weather and sea, we noticed a person we are fairly sure was in a Kayak. Straight out from us at the most 1Km off shore.

During the time it took me to go and order a meal, this person had drifted towards North Mole and heading for the rocks.

Having brought this to the attention of the staff, who were unconcerned, and enquiring if they had binoculars, no. We watched this person who my wife said she thought the kayak turned over at one point while I was away.

Looking like he was too near the rocks I called Fremantle rescue, who then dispatched a boat. But during this time out sailor had disappeared.

Does anybody else know anything or had a mate who came home a bit tired!

Not the first time

Not the first time I have seen Kayakers going out in bad weather. I was in ocean reef marina yesterday on the rescue boat and a couple of kayaks went out (not even with lifejacket). They soon returned as it was breaking across the entrance. Had the tower keep an eye on them just in case. have seen this a few times at ocean reef. can they not see how rough it is from the carpark

Also had a couple of young blokes on jetskis deciding it was tough rough outside so decided to do 30knts and doughnuts in the marina. We have no authority to stop it. Idiots all round. Again minority making majority look bad

Thanks for the input, why anyone would want to be out in that weather in a boat, let alone a kayak, is beyond me. Its a bit hard watching this and wondering if one should do something, or that the skipper has all under control. We went around to where this person would have ended up, most of it is fenced off and not accessable.

I can only assume that when this guy/girl went from our vision, that he paddled back out around the mole and into the boat harbour. But better than that in the lee of the wind. The reason we lost sight of him must have been because we were looking in the wrong direction, i.e. continuing to be blown into shore/on the rocks.

If anyone from Fremantle Sea Rescue is on here, thankyou for attending. However I would have loved to have been out with you, it would have been fun!
