Canning River

Thought I'd start a topic for Canning River reports as thats where I do the bulk of my fishing

Had a fish on the grassy bank below the Castledare railway yesterday but only got about 5 undersize bream on river prawns from right in the middle of the river. Didn't get any touches at all fishing around the snags which I thought was odd. Same thing happened last week fishing about 200m downstream. About to take the kids down to Kent St weir now to feed the ducks and flick a few lures around and see what happens!

No luck with the fish at Kent St but plenty of mozzies so I lost interest pretty quickly

Riverton bridge

Sun, 2013-03-10 17:37

Went for a bike ride with my kid yesterday, as I crossed the bridge around 11 am saw a bloke catch a small bream. Said he caught 4 in last half hour on white bait.

 Got 2 tiny bream under

Thu, 2013-03-14 07:37

Got 2 tiny bream under Shelley bridge last night with river prawns. Had a whitebait out on the big rod in the hopes of a mulloway or flattie but the drag didn't go click once

The bream in the canning will

Fri, 2013-03-15 23:10

The bream in the canning will eat anything when hungry! there are some very nice fish between riverton bridge and kent street. I havn't had much of chance to get up there on the yak over summer but over the last few years it has produced some very nice fish! Been landbased a lot over summer mainly on the shelley foreshore near the sailing club to get my young bloke involved and have caught heaps on baits and a few on lures. Atm they seem to be on the bite from 3pm-5pm. But none bigger then 30cm, I'm starting to wonder if there's any 40cm+ left. I know there was a big kill in the swan a while ago of bigger fish.

A friend of mine "claims" to

Fri, 2013-03-22 18:48

A friend of mine "claims" to have hooked a 40cm fish which got away when his knot untied just as he was reaching to pull the fish out of the water somewhere around the Castledare railway section I think. Went for a fish along there on wednesday and was getting heaps of bites in the same spot but only managed to pull in the one bream about 20cm. Moved down to the Riverton bridge and action wasn't much improved but pulled in the biggest trumpeter I've seen come out of the river! This was all around 11am so my hopes weren't too high but the kids like heading out at that time
