Last Weeks Northern Report
For the past few months I had been planning a Marlin trip for any part of February but after a few things came up we were narrowed down to the second half and as per usual the weather gods had other ideas and the long range forecast was for southerly’s and lots of them. Given we were to be tenting and in a fairly remote location we made the call to pull the pin which was devastating. My brother and I were still keen to head north even if it was only for a few days. Finally a window opened up last week and we hit the road on Monday. Leaving the big boat and the heavy gear this was going to be predominantly a diving trip, the mid to low 40’s each day reinforced this idea.
The first day was an eye opener as it was both our first time up north during summer and the heat made things a little interesting, the 29’ water wasn’t all that refreshing either. Luckily the fishing was as hot as the barometer. Our first dive both of us bumped our pb baldies on straight hook and also filled the fridge for the trip. The fishing was equally as good on bent hook with many spangos, trevs, long tom ect falling victim to our offerings.
The remainder of the trip was just as good and we were blessed with glassy mornings and a nice 8kn sea breeze in the arvo. We crammed a lot into the four days we had up there and I lost count of how many dives we did but we saw some amazing things including a monster GT to 40kg, many many many sharks, some small some not so, some nice crays and millions of crabs that chewed through everything from cans, ipod cables, feet and even our tent which also added another element to sleeping. Another highlight for me was watching my brother fight a monster for half an hour getting towed all over the place and dragging us off shore only to see a bloody big turtle surface, made for a pretty funny WTF moment. I won’t bore you all with the thousands of pics we took so here are a few of the better ones. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the vid that should be done in the coming weeks.

Sweet as pics and report mate, top effort. I especially like the long tom flute pic! If you don't mind me asking, what area was this? I've only been as far north as Kalbarri and need to do some exploring!
