Car crash, write off what next
Hey all, my girlfriend was in a decent car crash yesterday.
She got rear ended when she was stationary at 60 km/ph amazing how quickly life can change.
The airbags worked, the phones dialed triple 0 and police were at the scene pretty quickly along with a tow truck driver a ambulance and a fire brigade.
The car was towed, my girlfriend got checked out by the paramedics.
Im taking care of all the practical matters now just want to make sure I haven't missed anything out so any advice would be appreciated.
The at fault driver has full comprehension insurance with Rac.
We have filed a crash report and have a claim number for his insurance and they have admitted that he was at fault.
I will be taking her to the doctor today and have contacted the insurance commission Western Australia and have a personal injury claim number from them.
The car is insured for $6600 with AAMI but realistically can't replace the car for $8200 in this market and once checking the sliding scale on Rac they would insure it for $8400 maximum.
Also they towing service specialized tilt tray and towing services have taken the car to Landsdale.
Rac said they would send a assessor within 4 days to check out the car then would get us a hire car with budget direct once that has been completed.
My question is if I hire a car today to take my girlfriend to the doctor(once the claim is approved) would we get a refund?
Anyone been through this process and any advice anyone can give what else she is entitled too.
Thanks for your help!
Ill be taking good care of her.

insurance
They are at fault, there Insurance pays for everything not your insurance. Wife had same replaced the car with new one no out of pocket ..That is a wright off, front and rear damage wife had same they just wrote it off.
But in saying that always check before you do anything so you wont be out of pocket.
All the best for the Misses.

Thanks Scubafish
Is it best just to keep paying for her insurance until the money is in the account?

yes is it Due ?
they(your insurance) will want a copy of the report and your insurance should just carry over to the new car (wright off pending) with the new rego.
Remember your claim is with the other persons Insurance not yours They are the ones at fault.

That realy sucks.hope the
That realy sucks.hope the other half will be ok. As far as the hire car goes best to get hold of your insurer if yes they will then claim against the other party. What realy sucks is you can't get another car in the same condition as the one written off for the price you get paid out.

Speak to your insurance
Speak to your insurance company, if it is not at fault, there should be a process where they can claim the extra cost from their insurance on your behalf.
Just because your car is insured for that, doesnt mean there isnt extra costs/damage claimable for their company as long as your company knows about and doesnt sign it off as finalised on your behalf

All good, I've been with RAC
All good, I've been with RAC for about 10 yrs and only 2 real claims, both this yr and both with same son driving lol.
First was his fault, got the Ute back and not even a week later a lady changed lanes into him again.
They have been pretty good to deal with other than a couple of minor dramas that were way easier than expected.
100% though, know your rights before taking them on.
Make sure your own company knows you are out of pocket more than just their policy, and acknowledge them if they help you with it.
