Carnar-fin 2018: Updates

(Admin- please delete if promotional posts like this aren’t permitted)

Hey all

For those of you that are interested, this is just a general information/ update on Carnarvon’s “Carnar-fin” competition this year.

As you may be aware, the comp came very close to not running this year, but thanks to the hard work of the Carnarvon Chamber of Commerce, a group of local businesses and some passionate locals, it is definitely running, and by all accounts, will be as good as ever.

Dates for the comp are, as always, the last week in May/ first week in June (Monday May 28th – Sunday June 3rd) to coincide with the long weekend on June 4th to allow for the metro boys to get home after the week

The comp is a not for profit event designed to support the community, with proceeds to be split between the local Lions club (who usually run the event, but are unable to this year due to some unfortunate personal circumstances) and the Carnarvon Yacht clubs initiative to reopen the currently closed town waterway (keen media watchers/ fishos have probably seen/ read about this recently) , so its all for very good causes. Rest assured, the “old boat ramp” (on the commercial harbor side) is still fully function and provides easy access to the open ocean.

Some facey links you will find more info on, and which will be regularly updated with more details are:

https://www.facebook.com/CarnarFin/

A new improved website is also currently under development and should be up in the near future.

Give the pages a like and follow if you are keen to find out more, or just support in principal.

The comp itself will be of the usual tried and tested format with some new improvements/ additions.  Western Angler and some other fisho related big guns are trying to make an appearance to help support the event. Kids competition/ juniors day, daily prizes, sausage sizzles (and rumour has is, fresh B+E burgers at the ramp in the early mornings!) supporting the local sea rescue, and all the usual entry souveniers and give aways are also back as usual. Registration is also relatively cheap compared to most of the other North West comps as the focus is on inclusivity. The different catergories of fish (17) give landbased, tinny, small and big boaters the opportunity to have a crack.

Those who have ever fished Carnarvon before will know how good the fishing is around these parts. The comp, while it can get serious for the hard cores, is overall pretty relaxed and more focused on fun and having a good time, so its open for everyone, no matter what your skill or seriousness level.

Would be great to see some support for this event, even if just in spirit/ comments on here and the facebook pages, and we hope to avoid any potential negativity referring to “catch and kill”, “upsizing” etc etc as everyone involved in this event have the best intentions of the community- both Carnarvon and fishing in general- in mind.

And don’t think about winning the Red Emperor category… that ones mine this year J
