caught near Gnarabup, what fish is this

This is my first post, pretty new to fishing. So far I've learnt to identify (and return to the ocean) wrasse and buff bream, smelly buggers!

 McCullochs Scalyfin. Ive caught some whoppers at Hillaries marina, and they always give a good account for themselves on light tackle.
 

EDIT: on a second glance, could be a Western Scalyfin......

hey mate ive caught a couple of stonkers in close to the rocks on the end of the south wall and they certainly go hard on light gear!!

Very aggressive fish when you get in it's territory.... Always having a go when your diving around them..... My missus got bitten by one the other day and actually broke the skin.

Western Scalyfin - Parma occidentalis

Western Scalyfin are greyish brown to black.  Often white bars are seen as the fish matures from juvenile stage.  The distinguishing feature from McCulloch's Scalyfin is the concave profile of the adult snout. 

Juvenile Western Scalyfin have white vertical bars.

They grow to 30cms in length.

Western Scalyfin are endemic to Western Australia, found from Cape Leeuwin to Coral Bay.

McCulloch's Scalyfin (Damselfish) may be dark grey, brown or olive green, the head often darker than the body.  They have a single long dorsal fin and a forked tail.  McCulloch's scalyfin have a more rounded head than Western Scalyfin and there are no visible white lines. 

McCulloch's Scalyfin grow to 30cms. 

They are found in southern Western Australia from the Recherche Archipelago to the Abroholos.

 waddya know, ive caught both haha. Got an absolute stonker of a Mccullochs about a year ago - easily 40cm and 1.5kgs.

Yeah at the start of every cray season they run at your face, either they get used to it, or I do, because I never notice them towards the end.
