Light tackle landbased fun / ID Specie
Submitted by Blue Whaler on Thu, 2011-04-14 09:25
Had some fun on light tackle at Mindarie Marina, south wall. Bait used was squid and pilchard. (All fish released, even the million puffies.)
Have a look at the 2 pics and confirm if I am correct. The first, Silver / Black Bream? - 2nd Western Devil?
Anyway - all caught on a 8ft Adre Graphite with 4.5kg casting fireline. Heaps off fun.
Cheers

I think my plan would be to
I think my plan would be to go down to Quinns Beach at about 4-ish afternoon, looks like the wind might turn to a gentle WSW and fishing with the rising tide (ht @ 9:42pm) might just be good. Anybody fished Quinns Beach recently?
Might just blob a big bait out and leave it in my sandspike and scratch around with smaller bait. Maybe some mull / tailor around.
Anybody welcome to join if you want. Maybe do some casting practice at the same time.
Cheers

Thats the one! At the start
Thats the one! At the start of the cray season, they're really ballsy and charge you when you hit their patch.

haha - yep. Listen carefully
haha - yep. Listen carefully when they charge you - have you heard the popping/cracking noises to add to the 'scary' effect?
There are actually two species of this colour in Perth and the one in this photo (Western) is the least common. The common one is called McCulloch's Scalyfin.

LOL - did - this one in particular gave me a great fight on the light tackle in and around the rocks - almost lost it. Very high spirited! - estimate size about 25cm.
