Centre cab v centre consol

Looks like we've got a buyer for the 5.5 demo, will be the shortest time i've owned a boat, but the point of this topic is that i've always wanted a centre cab and that was the plan, if the sale goes through we would build a 5.8 centre cab, but had a couple of people say that the cabs a waste ao space better of with a good size centre consol and have heaps more deck space, so if any one has owned or knows someone who has had a centre cab i would be interested to hear your thoughts, thanks and keep hookin them.

I like centre consuls, but
I like centre consuls, but having said that having a well planned centre cab with a head for the better half and a dry area for the kids and stuff, is a nice thing to have.
I use to have a 28ft centre consul and that was large enough to have heaps of storage, but I did not have the super consul with the head in it.
The next boat will be a good size centre cab.

Centre cabs are great for
Centre cabs are great for weather protection but they do sacrifice a lot of deck space. I think it comes down to personal preferance and me being a mad keen younger fisho getting wet isn't really an issue and I'd rather the benefits of having the center console.

Cnentre cab for me
I got a Centre cab custom built in Oct 06 and have been really happy with the design. Having seen the trailcraft centre cab, the builder sent me the plans for a jackman design runabout. I spent a few nights putting pencil to paper and came up with a scaled design of what I was after.
I excluded a cabin (to my wifes disgust) but the driving area is more than ample with heaps of storage space forward of the dash (built in rack). !.5m of deck behind chairs to transom. Plenty of room to walk around front on instead of shimmying side on. Front has large area plus a padded seat built into the front of the cab. Windscreen made for my height so a little higher than the conventional.
All this in a 5.5m craft with 2.5m beam.
Yes you do get wet when its very rough as water does hit you from sides or over the screens (I don`t have clears). But hey if you`re worried about that, stick to shore based activities.
Hope this helps

haha Brad I knew you would
haha Brad I knew you would mention that, fact is, getting wet while you're trying to sleep sucks arse! Getting wet on route between creeks aint so bad when the sun is shining and it's 40+ degrees and you dry in a few minutes

Selling Demo
My son builds Epic Marine boats and the 5.5 is our demo boat, we had planned to sell at the end of the season and biuld another over the quiet months but we have a customer who wants it and as soon as he can push us to sell, thats why I asked the question because I went out on a penguin centre cab years ago and said one day I'll get one, that may be sooner than later now and as I am on line now thanks guys for your imput, very appreciative.

centre cab
Centre cabs are the go for me,
I love having the cab to store all the gear, cameras etc and centre console would not do it. Dry space is a must on boats esp when carting camera gear etc. When it comes to storage you cant beat it. Good for kids too - they can always curl up in the cab and have a kip out of the sun if need be.
Really not much room is lost and my 5.8m can fish 4 people with ease and there is heaps of room for someone to fish up the front (Gallashs usual haunt).
