Christmans Island information

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows much about land based fishing at Christmas Island. Out of the blue my wife suggested she would love to go there.  Great I think, it looks a pretty likely fishing spot to me. I know bonefishing is big there, but I am more interested in chucking some spinners and poppers from the shore somewhere, but I haven't been able to find out too much info on that type of fishing there.
Any information would be appreciated.
Regards Colin Hay

are you talking about christmas island  noth near indonesia???  If so i have been there half a dozen times or so, can tell you about a few good spots

for all you popper chucking fanatics

Having access to a tinnie is good, we hit up some of the local malay folk.  Gave them a bit of cah and they were more than happy to lend it to us.  Heaps of tuna, wahoo, huge GT's near the ship loader in flying fish cove.  Take some big big strong poppers.  Plenty of red bass, yellowfin tuna.
will get a bit of info together for you if you are keen

Big yellowfin
huge 100kg tuna caught right next to the cliffs over the drop off

That's the one. I had a quick look today but most of the info was about bonefishing or game fishing offshore. While that dounds great, I would love to do some landbased fishing there.
Looking forward to hearing about your venture's there Brad

lots of accomidation available as well and a really beautiful place to visit.  Also has some great surf on the uter reef at certain times of the year, and a beautiful lagoon on the inside.  Plenty of info on the net as well about accomidation too.

Thanks for all the info

That's great info guys. I might have to think about the Cocos as I really want to try out all my new shorefishing gear. Maybe I can talk my wife into visiting both. I think it is pretty cheap to fly between the two islands.
Shorefire sounds like a good bet if I get to Xmas Island, as if he is only operating May to November that will fit within my timeframe.
Sounds like a will need to take some pretty strong gear and beef up all my hooks, etc. because it sounds like there are some pretty big fish up that way.
Brad I will PM you a little further down the track when I know if I am definately going or not.
Once again, thanks for the great info. That is what makes this site so great,
Hey Kal, duty free drinks and cigs. Mate that sounds good.
Regards, Colin Hay

RE: Cocos Islands

Wed, 2008-01-09 09:32

I have just been doing a bit of research. The Cocos Islands sound like a hidden treasure. GTs of the jetty, tevally and bonefish on the flats. And is is pretty cheap too. Emailed my wife a few pics and I think I have won her over.

Has anyone from Shipwrecked been to Cocos. I was wondering if anyone had info on the best fishing spots and places to stay, etc.
Many thanks Colin
