That will appeal to such a small part of the market.
Ceratainly not for me who wants to catch a fish to share it with my family where I cannot see my family getting on a charter boat at $200 a pop for 0600 in the morning...
Punch has no idea, heard him talking about it "1 Dhu will feed 4 people, 2 dhu's 8 people" so lets say 8 people all want to go on the boat & pay $150 each = $1,200 that means the charter operator needs to pay for fuel, his boat, his time pay a deckie et etc , so how many days in the year would he have enough paying clients to make this viable? NO CHANCE

I must admit it's one of the most stupid rules that I've heard of. The above comments are all correct - very few people go on a charter just to catch their lunch! Save your money and catch a few herring instead.
Punch is an absolute clown. I've had some dealings with him on another matter and he shows a complete absence of any sort of smarts.
it really does make you wonder however about the competence of those who are actually making these decisions.
Let's not forget that Fisheries have acknowledged that the stocks were recovering prior to introducing these new measures, just not fast enough to meet their target. Wouldn't it have been simpler to extend the target date.
I'm confused. Stocks are in grave danger yet you can go catch as much as you want as long as it's cooked on the water and "consumed" at sea it's all good? Load the boat slay 30fish cook em all what ever isn't eaten goes overboard or into lunch boxes and hidden in tackle bags. Hope don punch and fisheries choke on their 2yo basa fillets.
Last December I emailed Fisheries asking, given land based demersal fishing would be OK, whether I could catch a fish from shore on an island then bring it home. Reply was as follows;
"During the closed season, you cannot be in possession of demersal scalefish on a boat in the waters of the West Coast Bioregion. This means that fish caught via land-based line fishing on an island during the demersal scalefish closure cannot be transported via boat back to mainland. Fish must be consumed on the island."
So it seems cooking up the catch on an island is fine but don't bring it home. I'm starting to think about getting a drone.

“I don’t reckon Don Punch
“I don’t reckon Don Punch could come up with a stupider, more non-sensical set of rules for this fishery”

Stocks are not in any danger
according to Fisheries. They are recovering, just not as fast as they would like to meet their 'target recovery date'.

If it is ok for charter
If it is ok for charter boats, then why not for rec boats on multi day trips in "Wilderness Areas" (Abrolhos etc)

Or just everyone, I'd love
Or just everyone, I'd love to mount a barbie on my boat and have buttered baldy sandwiches.
Love the West!

BBQ on an island also recommended
