Chasing Landbased GT's in WA

hey guys just in the process of gearing up for a new target i want to tick off the bucket list. got a decent pe8 setup coming and i want to try and target a 20kg+ GT landbased. i know guys do well at the navy jetty and oyster ledge at exmouth and ive seen a few come from dirk and quobba but they seem to be a not commonly targeted fish or are they just to hit and miss to target propery?? going to be fishing mostly washy spots so not sure if poppers or stickbaits are the go as i havent really done this style of fishing before so any tips or tricks would be much apreciated cheers..

Exmouth seems your best bet

Exmouth seems your best bet mate for sure. Broome jetty has big ones early in the season but you have no hope on conventional gear. Don't know of anywhere else you can find them regularly in WA

How long can you wait?

Never been on them , but have read two articles on a mob called peak sportsfishing exmouth,

sounds like they can put you on them , and yes its from a boat , just a extra thing to consider if you headed up that way for landbased .

Willis Island, Coral Sea.

I did it for 9 months using a 14 foot Butterworth beach road and a penn 8500 (and a glove) with 30lb mono. Spanyid raiders and chrome slices did the job, the GT's wouldn't look at poppers. Had a couple of floating stickbaits that were also effective but they were eaten by red bass eventually. Very tide dependant and also on the sea birds returning from fishing (the lesser frigate birds would pick on the boobies to get them to spill their load, the GT's would gobble up what hit the water).

Best I did was 11 GT's landed in one afternoon, biggest was 28kg. No need for a gym membership.

 A mate used to regularly

A mate used to regularly catch GT's off the SE tip of Peak Island (landbased but you will need a boat to get there). There is plenty of reef and wash there but he didnt seem to have many problems catching them, mainly on poppers.

yeah i want to do it WA and landbased for sure because boat is just cheating haha. ill eventualy do it from a boat as i want a billfish so ill be heading back to exmouth for that but for now ill keep on land. looking like navy jetty or exmouth is the go once ive tried the other spots on my list a bit further south. with poppers and stickbaits do i need to spend $100 of a lure or can i get away with rerigging Orcas or other large stickbaits or the cheaper nomad lures compared to ASWB, Patriots ect ect
