 I only fish with cheap

Thu, 2013-12-12 21:39

I only fish with cheap internet spectra braid now, the dhu in my pic here was caught on 40lb ebay spectra. Always re spool my reels each year and there is noway im doing that with overpriced tackleshop stuf. Braid is only as good as your drag on your reel....

 Plenty of threads along he

Plenty of threads along he same lines (pun intended).

I think you pay for the consistency. It may work out for you, but I've gone the cheap braid before & almost had it ruin trips for me. IMO unless you know it's not going to let you down consider whether it's really worth it.

personally I would never use

Fri, 2013-12-13 12:37

personally I would never use cheap braid in my current situation. I've been up north on a trip and a mate skimped and lost a couple of good fish. 1 very good tuna (fish alone worth well over the price of some of the best braid on the market.) he learned the hard way and stripped the reel that night (with a lot a swearing F%#$%^ S#$@ Braid lol )to respool !

I work all year pay the boat rego insurance, fuel, buy good rods reels, other assorted tackle, blah blah blah take time off work to go fishing.....why would I skimp on $100 (sometimes costs me that /day in fuel) when it's time to pull that 15Kg red in ? or Dhu or sail or Kg or whatever.

I think it comes down to go with what ever you can afford but rationalize if it is worth loosing that fish over.

I see no probs in some situations though.... if you look at your situation and think ...well if I loose a couple of fish .....whatever ...or you are using 50lb braid to bring in duhs with 3kg drag and it's all you can afford to get you out there on the water then....fine ....best to be out there with whatever you can afford!

All the gear and no idea. Plenty of great if not the greatest of all fish were caught long before the days of $150 braid???????

aimed at me ?and absolutely

Fri, 2013-12-13 14:28

aimed at me ?

and absolutely go read Hemmingway.

if you want to catch fish like that go for it.

No idea based on your extensive knowledge of my fishing experience ?

Am simply saying to buy the best gear you can buy to improve catch rate and enjoyment. (time on the water in the most precious)
but thanks for the personal attack.

My friend bought some

Fri, 2013-12-13 14:17

My friend bought some expensive Daiwa brand braid and took it up to steep point. It then broke multiple times while he was casting it and once when he was on a fish.

He ended up stripping it all off his reel and buying a spare roll of some cheap braid off me.

So sometimes the known brands can have crap batches too.

Have a mixture

Fri, 2013-12-13 14:41

I've got expensive braid on my boat kit for 2 reasons:

1 I only need 300m of it

2: the breaking strain is more acurately portrayed.

On my LB stuff I have cheap braid and I've had no hassles.

1\ I use 500 to 1000 m of the stuff on a reel, at a time.

2\ i generally buy a high poundage to cater for the manufacturing inconsistancy

3\ My reels have 150 metres of top shot and I use the Braid as backing line.

I dont know how easy it is to cast the cheaper stuff?
