Abit of everything, mostly
Abit of everything, mostly boat and off the rocks/groins,
like shimano gear if that makes things easier.

Thats a tough one
You would generally use a longer rod off the rocks and a shorter rod for the boat.
Saying that though, alot of blokes use the longer rod in the boat for wash fishing for tailor/drummer ect. It would make sense to go a 2 peice if you went a longer rod, as you could stash it when you finished using it in a boat situation and would be less prone to damage.
7 to 8 foot is a good general purpose size with a 8 to 15kg line rating and 30lb braid you would have a handy set up.
Either that or go 2 rods for the 1 reel. 6 to 7 ft for the boat and a 10 to 12 ft for the rocks/beach.

I'd personally prefer two
I'd personally prefer two rods. You might find anything over 7ft in a boat starts to get a bit unwieldy, and I prefer something at least 9ft off the rocks for a bit of leverage and casting distance. Did you have a budget or have you looked at any rods in particular?

If you're set on Shimano then
If you're set on Shimano then maybe look at T-curve or Terez for the boat and Aerowave for the rocks. Haven't tried the Terez myself but they're supposed to be a nice rod. I've got a couple of t-curves and an aerowave and they're all solid rods. Just make sure you take your reel with you when you go looking so you can see if the outfit balances out ok.
