I was close on the weight
I was close on the weight guess from the other thread :p
I dont really see the point of using such a large heavy jig though. Would need a broomstick of a rod, and take too much effort to jig. Where they usually get the kingfish I doubt you need such a heavy jig. A jig 3/4 of the length, but less than half the weight would be interesting though. Big jig, big fish?

I think it was more of a case of using it because you can, not because you need to :)

maybe just a small man
maybe just a small man syndrome, in my opinion you would only be using something like this to show off, but each to their own

When i worked on the charter boats some of the japanese that came over would link 3 400g jigs together and drop that down for fun and these were no sea rocks or SWL jigs, more like $100 pearl shell jigs, would hate to loose them, bye bye $300!!!!

Just for a laugh
That is well known angler Chris Wong and the distributor of a number of top end jigging products among other this here in NZ.
That particular trip was up at the 3 King Island back in 2006 I think and yeah it was just for a laugh I think. We don't use those here in NZ unless its for a bit of fun. I have one and it sits on the wall in my tackle shed
Suprising to see how big a lure kingies will actually try and eat though or perhaps it was trying to mate with it? haha
