chirp or non chirp??
Hi Crew.
A couple of weekends ago I had all my electronics stolen off my boat. The mungrels stole my 10 inch Lowrance dash mounted sounder, even took the TM260. They left all the screws, that was nice of them.
Anyway, so I now have the opportunity to upgrade the sounder.
I will be replacing it with Furuno TZT3 12inch which has Chirp capability.
Ive never had or used Chirp before. so my question is, is it any good? Or alternatively, should I stay with traditional echo??
I definately dont have a problem with traditional sounder, and at this stage I will get another TM260. (The transducer needs to be transom mount.)
If I choose to go with the Chirp, the transducer required will be the TM265LH.
The only difference I see with Chirp is it may be better at fish seperation, but with my fishing, I tend to look for ground not necessarily fish schools.
I fish general ground, 30m to 90m's with the odd occasional deep drop, so the 1kw is a not a comprimise.
Chasing some advise please. Thanks.
Cheers

Chirp option all the way, if
Chirp option all the way, if you mainly bottom bash the cone angle on the TM265LH will ensure you're right on top of the fish.. TM260 Was great 10 years ago, now with chirp you can get good separation and fish the fish not the ground
If for some reason you don't like the chirp, just turn chirp off and you'll have a TM 260

Didn't realise
Thanks for your reply.
I didn't realise you can turn it of.
I thought it's either chirp or non chirp depending on the transducer you select.
If that's the case I'd be silly just getting the TM260

265lh
The 265LH is awesome. I run a fairing block version on a TZ2 with the UHD box.
May as well make the most of your TZ3 and have the option of chirp

From my understanding
From my understanding Tim, from a previous comment, that I'm able to turn the chirp option off. Do you ever do this? or do you run with chirp all the time?

Turn off
Not sure on that one with the TZ3. My TZ2 doesnt seem to have that option but as yet I havent needed to try.
I would like the option to choose a fixed freq when deep dropping as that is one area the chirp isnt as strong.
Out to 100m I havent even thought about the need to do it though

Deep
Deepest so far was 300m at 20 knots.
Have had deeper but we were trolling.
Mine is a fairing block install which helps too

I thought the difference
I thought the difference between chirp and no chirp was chirp pings across a range of frequencies. Therefore if you only want to restrict the frequency you can go in on your head unit and specify which single frequency to use. I can't work out why you would want to do that but it's possible on my Simrad/TM185 so assume the same for other similar gear.

Chrirp forever
Always chirp, it has many benefits and no negatives.

12 week
12 week minimum wait Vic for Furuno electronics. And worse for transducer from Airmar, they can't even tell me when there receiving any.
