Mark fish set up
Submitted by Assassin on Thu, 2022-03-10 16:23
Hi I was wondering if some one can help me get my markfish to work? I have a 295 and want to link it to an hds7. I have wired it up going by the wiring diagrams for the 295 and markfish so im pretty sure I have that bit right. I have it set on 0183 in the 295 and have put in settings on the hds following previous threads on here but still can't get them to link. I have 11 satellites showing on the hds. When I press mark on the 295 it says no data position so I'm thinking it is something to do with the settings in the hds? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Wiring isn't right
when I did my markfish with furuno 628 to a Garmin 753 the wiring diagrams were incorrect
had a quick look for your units and I reckon below is the correct way to wire, let me know if it's different or the same as you have it.
HDS rx- green to mark fish tx- green
HDS rx+ orange to mark fish tx+ orange
HDS tx- blue to furuno 295 rx- green
HDS tx+ yellow to furuno 295 rx+ yellow
Furuno 295 tx- blue to markfish blue
furuno 295 tx+ white to markfish white

Gday Vic. Yes that is the way I have wired it. There is a bare wire on the hds nmea cable I was assuming it was just a shield wire and doesn't go anywhere or is it an earth wire?

Most other brands the nmea
Most other brands the nmea is grounded via the units power ground ( black wire)
Pretty sure the HDS nmea has to be grounded separately via that bare wire.

I can't recall any issues
I can't recall any issues with the wiring from memory that was all very straight forward as per the instructions.
however I do remember some issues with settings on both my lowrance and the furuno not being quite right.
Unfortunately I'm no where near my boat at the moment in lock down and can't recall the final menu settings. At the time another user here gave me settings required. Try pm user marineboy he might be able to help if he is still on here.

I grounded that bare wire
I grounded that bare wire but still no luck with it working. I've played with different settings in the hds but I don't know?

Given you say your wiring is
Given you say your wiring is correct:
Check the NMEA sentences are being output on the HDS unit. You'll have to dig into the configuration on the HDS unit and enable this (IIRC, it'll be something allong the lines of 'TLL output enable').
Failing this, check the baud rate of the data from the markfish and make sure this is set correctly on the FCV-295.
