Choosing the right the trailer springs. "Any experts on here"

Time to replace the trailer springs but every company seems to have a different opinion on what style, weight, gal or no gal can anybody give me a bit of insight on what to get.

Boat loaded with fuel is 1600kg fibre glass centre console.

Trailer is aluminium with 2300 aggregated trailer mass.

Trailer and boat does alot of KMS.

Springs at the moment are 4 leaf 45mm eye to eye  tandem axle

No problems with cutting them off and starting again.

Maby new shackle bolts and bushes, get a new centre bolt for the springs, split them , treat them with ranex corrosion inhibitor( or black epoxy paint from a can.)

 Yankie trailer?

Id be surprised if you can get the same springs locally. Martins will set you straight on whats the best way to go down. If it was me. New bolts, bushes and shackle plates. Springs look fine.

I have just found a broken leaf so they are getting replaced. Martins are telling me to go 3t springs one person says go gal and  you ring back and someone else says dont go gal. I would have thought 3t springs would be over kill i dont want to go bouncing down the road or even worse start damaging the alloy trailer.

Yankie trailers especially

Sat, 2017-04-29 20:04

Yankie trailers especially with springs arent usually a straight swap for Oz running gear. There will be some mods to make.

Which martins store you talking with. We use the oconner store for work and the boys there Mark and Ken know there stuff. If you like Come and see us at Fremantle trailers in oconner just down the road from martins. We do this regularly.

 Just gone through the same

Sat, 2017-04-29 21:25

Just gone through the same thing on a Magictilt tandem trailer. Martins will likely turn their nose up when they hear it is yankee, to be honest I found then arrogant and unhelpful.

I endedup ripping out the entire entire leaf spring running gear and putting Transtyle torsion axles with Lancruiser  hubs and SS, brakes made in Melbourne, ordered them through A mob in Perth (Duralite I think). I did the install with help from a few boys off Fishwrecked then we towed it to Exxy, just got back. Towed brilliant, I would go torsion again.

Personaly I like the single leaf springs , galvanized.  Unquote   Well, he's lucky he can't use those POS's because he had a proper rocker/roller load sharing system.

Gal multi-leafed springs are the source of some contention, there are some really poor imported ones around. The heat involved in the galvanising process doesn't help the temper, I personally stay away from them, because you can't be sure of what you are getting, but that's just my opinion.
