Cockburn Sound snapper numbers
Submitted by Mack1 on Sun, 2018-09-23 10:39
I hve noticed plenty of boats in the mid sound area probably the D9 area, but most fishers I know are struggling to get a fish. Are there many fish getting caught? Last year plenty of boats were fishing along the rock walls with hit and miss results...all miss for me. Any tips would be appreciated. Are there more fish morningn night or day time?

Plenty of boats around D9
Fished last Friday on a mate's boat with a 4am launch from Woodman Point. With no previous experience in Cockburn Sound we started outside Garden Island and then moved into the Sound after as the bite was slow. Many boats around D9 with no sign of snapper on the sounder or excitement from anglers. We moved around the Sound in search of fish and fished the rock walls late morning. No snapper for us but scored a nice KG and a flathead.

I got all of mine around the rock walls last season and in the evenings from my dinghy. Put in at woodies, motor out for 5 minutes, find some fish, catch said fish and motor back to the ramp.
