For 100ish pots...
...and based on the way it was 15 years ago, somewhere between $3 and $5 million. Things might be structured differently these days, with the quota and all.

depending on how many units
depending on how many units you want to buy! $100,000 - $150,000 think the units are around $3000 per unit at the minute? not to sure. This is for West Coast! Then you need a boat in survey! and a coxswain ticket at minium!

WCDSP is about $40k FBL $5k
WCDSP is about $40k FBL $5k south west units are around $300 a unit. midwest are about $340 a unit and you don't even want to know about the islands. Around $350k for a 5 months block in exmouth. you'll need a Coxswans ( $6k limits you to 15nm from land) or a master 5 $8-9k(300nm I be leave) also a VMS ( vessel monitoring system ) at about $5k fitted and a vessel in commercial survey you'd want at least 2c. Then you'd need hydraulic or electric winches $3k-$5k ice machines eskys a small truck a tender and a shit load of marks unless you want to put in a L1 sonar at around $80k.
$150k would get you a entery level boat and to fish full time you'd want 100-150 days $250k-$300k
So your up for $300k-$400k and if you want to borrow that money your paying about 15-17% as its classed as machinery finance

Sonar
Sonar not sounder. The latest ones give you a 3d picture of the bottom approx. 3oo metres wide in 150 metres of water.
All works from a head of the unit that retracts in to the boat keep when not in use,

I don't know any cray boats
I don't know any cray boats running one! The size of the head would slow them down to much I'd say. It's more for wetline, long line trap boats ect

See there is one going into a 8m trailer boat over east. Building the boat around the transducer. Should be interesting to see how it goes.

I think some are confusing Cray and demersal.
An MFL and quota of an economic quantity is around $5mil up
