Commodore Abrohlos 8000

I've made an offer on a Commodore Abrohlos 8000..

after all the boats I've owned in the past, I'm hoping this will be the last for at least 10 years!!!!

has anyone spent any time on them? It's the one located at Challenge Marine.

seems to have everything I require for my usual overnighter trips out to the islands off Carnarvon!!

did this belong to anyone on here?

he has a 350 yammie

Thu, 2015-02-05 18:59

There is a weight difference between the 250 and the 350 he drives to Dampier and fills at the servo near the ramp ,he has to get there with a oversize banner as its 8mm over with. There is no live bait tank so you will need to bolt one on but plenty of room next to the donk.Keep a good eye on your wheel bearings as he has bent two axles when he has blown them and its the same trailer as yours. At full noise with the 350 he gets 50knots but is drinking alot of fuel(around 126 litres per hour by memory) not sure how well the verado will go as you can bolt two 200,s on them.I know a few blokes who were considering that boat so you did well enjoy it looks a beauty.

 Hedland guy was a commodore

Tue, 2015-02-03 07:27

Hedland guy was a commodore marine dealer for a while. He had the demo boat with the 350 for one of the fishing comps here. Kept on burying the nose in the swell. Turned out it had a water tank in the bow and it took a while to figure that out.

Sun, 2015-02-15 16:26

Took her out today, blowing its tits off and typical  shark bay summer slop,

boat is unreal!!! Will be sticking permatrim on her to help with trim, and don't like the laid back sportsboat window.

hard to see out of the plastic above the window also with drying salt.

may look into modifying window into single glass window, more upright and fitting a couple of wipers.

i think I may have then found a keeper ;-)

interestingly, had 3 blokes all staring at the breather above the filler neck, wondering how much is she going to take, when another bloke saw it pissing out the breather out the back of the boat!!! Lol... Had us running into Caltex for the spill kits!!!

Permatrim

Sun, 2015-02-15 18:13

You don't want a permatrim. They are just a bandaid fix and cause their own issues.
If you haven't got trim tabs get them fitted instead and do it right the first time.

 Nah, I know what you're

Sun, 2015-02-15 18:41

Nah, I know what you're saying, but it wasn't the side to side trim that was a problem, being nose heavy, I'd like to give the donk a little more help lifting the nose up when going with the seas.

Tabs

Sun, 2015-02-15 18:46

Tabs can do that too. A fin can cause big issues with broaching in a following sea

tabs wont lift the bow, once

Sun, 2015-02-15 20:43

tabs wont lift the bow, once they are clear of the water they do nothing.

May need to look at relocating weight towards the back, batteries, water tanks etc?

Tabs

Sun, 2015-02-15 21:19

A mix of motor trim and tabs can do wonders for a boat but you are correct that they do nothing out of the water

Mon, 2015-02-16 08:22

agree that a Permatrim is not a good addition, a bit like letting the tyres down on one side to counter your car pulling to one side

Can anyone recommend someone in Gero that has the experience to instal drum anchor winch to my boat in Geraldton? Some mods and Fibreglassing may be required.

I'd ring John Cathro at Max

Fri, 2015-02-27 10:58

I'd ring John Cathro at Max Marine- he used to be in the boat modifying business himself for a long time (Murchison Boat Builders at the Fishermans Wharf)--he's probably not doing it himself, but would definitely point you to the best bloke for the job.
