All accessories run off your
All accessories run off your power out terminal. Battery 1 and 2 to their respective terminals.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Switch
Sounds like you have connected all your accessories directly to battery 2. If so they will always run from that battery but if the selector is not on 2 or both it will not charge. The isolator will not cut them off either if connected this way.
Normal way to set it up is to have them connected as Dodgy has said

I think it is only critical
I think it is only critical if you have a cranking battery and a deep cell battery. In which case you would have a different switch. I have with 1, 2, both and off switch. I run 1 or 2. never both. If you need to, use both to start then switch to 1 or 2. alternate with on each outing, or run on 1 on your way out and 2 on the way in. That way, the other battery should always be charged...

I had the same 3 way switch
I had the same 3 way switch on my boat, how it was on mine was if you select Batt 1 then everything runs off Batt 1 - Engine, Accessories the lot, same if Batt 2 was selected - everything is running off Batt 2. I swapped mine out for the BEP Battery Management Cluster. With this I now have both batteries totally separated with Batt 1 purely for the engine and Batt 2 purely for accessories. It charges the engine batt first then when full switches over to charge the accessories battery. One of the best things I have done is put this on.

Is your second battery a deep cell battery with the BEP cluster?

Just re read your post. If
Just re read your post. If you have your electrics bypassing the switch and going straight to Batt 2 then they wont drain batt 1 if the switch is on batt 1. If your electrics power cables run through the switch then I think you have the situation that was originally on my boat.

No I don't think so, they are both the same. Not sure what they are.

I think the BEP cluster is a
I think the BEP cluster is a good system, and when I redo my electrics probably in about 2019, I will investigate that further. my understanding is you get the most benefit if the 2nd (or 'house') Battery for your accessories is a deep cell battery. As you say it charges the 1st (cranking) Battery until full and then tops up the house battery.

I've added a blue-sea
I've added a blue-sea add-a-battery to my tub... Has a VSR which automatically isolates/combines batteries and a single isolator which is on/off/combined (emergency crank only). So all you do is switch the isolator on and you're away
