Hey guys, Me and the wife are heading to coral bay over xmas on a fishing trip. Only briefly been there once, Im just wondering what are some of our options, Ill be taking the ballooning gear and the surf rod. What are the best places to balloon and the best places for bottom fish, and what should I target? you input would be greatly appreciated.

Try this
Coral bay is more well known for relaxing, snorkelling, backpackers and boat fishing outside the reef.....landbased its very much hit and miss
Jump in the 4wd and head north or south for 20kms...much better

IVE FISHED THE ROCK WALL
At the boat ramp walk down from the car park and fish straight out i had hell runs and pulled in two sharks in a short seshion. Ive been told its ok to fish there as long as its off the wall and not the jetty.

If you're wanting to balloon
If you're wanting to balloon I'd hit Maud's Landing if there's an easterly blowing. Head up the beach a bit and send something out. Never tried it but seen people doing it and heard a few stories about tigers, macks and cobia getting caught.
Definitely take a smaller rod like a bream stick or something slightly heavier. Try flicking gold Halco scorps around the drop-offs if you can get to them... best off walking out on the change of a low tide, no doubt placcies would do the trick too. Or take some squid or mulie chunks and flick them out on the end of a standard running sinker type rig. Easy enough to get a feed of spanglies this way. Get some burley in the water too.
Five Fingers Reef looks fishy but we've hit it a few times without any success. The beach around to the south from there looks good too, a mate of mine has picked up a few big dart there so there are fish around.
The other place worth looking up is The Sandbar to the north. Take some 1oz Richter plugs, slices and some shallow diving lures like X-Raps for queenfish and trevs.

thanks ben for the detailed
thanks ben for the detailed feed back, I really appreciate it. I would love to get onto a few fish up there, long way to go not to catch anything. Really looking forward to catching a queenie or two and especially a giant trevally or golden trevally, do you get many of them up that way?

Never had any luck with
Never had any luck with queenies unfortunately but have picked up quite a few golden trevs. Got the hooks straightened at the Sandbar last time were there. .. they were light hooks though.
Have seen shots of landbased g-trains from Coral Bay but wouldn't know where to find them. There's a ripper shot floating around here on FW somewhere, will try and dig it up later.
