Coral bay Ruby’s

Few rubys from a recent trip. Managed to get the little quinine out to the 300s and get a few on the jigs.

Hey mate. We didn't have any issues with sharks out there but there were a couple of other boats near us fishing electrics and bait that got sharked multiple times. The jigs I used were oceans legacy deep contact 560g and a rapid fire fishing anvil in 400g with 20lb tasline.

That's a great effort on jig. Some great fish, and you got them back without shark bites

It was a different story in the shallower depths. Sharks took everything.

Nah but multiple big baits could put out a bit of scent.

Hey Zac

Thu, 2021-07-22 15:03

The pic of the bag for the day looks like you got a rare one there ?? The bottom fish looks to be a Flame Tail snapper !!! We caught 2 on a trip to Timor box a couple of years ago and the Skipper wanted 1 of them to stuff for his boss.Tackleworld Coolalinga. Funny thing was the first one the deckie didn't realise and had necked it. Skipper lost his shit LOL. Not 10 minutes later another one came up. All was well.

How big was the biggest Ruby. We got lucky an got 5 over 90cm and 1 over the metre. night time though No sharks on bait no electrics in 250M. Memorable.

hey mate, i was pretty stoked when the flametail came up as i hadnt cught one before. they get them quite often in the area we were fishing. the biggest rube went 17kgs, i didnt measure the length. we were pretty lucky with sharks out there and didnt lose any fish or gear.

No sharks in that deep water where we were either.

Fri, 2021-07-23 11:28

We were 300K offshore almost in Timor, we were fishing at night and there was only one 8 bar cod caught as a different species in that session. It was 45-50KG bloody enormous.

This was a new spot for Arafura charters, somehow we travelled a different line and the skipper being ever diligent marked it. Bloody hard yakka. Never forgotten though.

Back to the Flame tail, the Skipper had been put on watch for one by Steve Compain his boss, well known Darwin fishing identity, the skipper had never seen one in those waters.
