Thanks for your help ,you reckon on a good morning you could get on the outside of the reef for a trawl?

Yep good day you can get outside for sure. If u go south just be super careful of obviously swell and tide movement. Catch fuck all inside reef these days IMO

If you get a good enough

If you get a good enough day, go out the north passage and troll to the south passage or vice versa depending on wind direction.

BUT......expect to loose most to sharks.

 with a 3.7 it's a long way

with a 3.7 it's a long way out the north passage but safe if you don't mind doing the ks.  on a perfect day the south passage is easy and plenty of tinnys do it.

Drift bait mulies

Perfect for getting good spanglies and should a Spaniard wander through they will take it every time, just make sure your reel drag set super loose or your rod can quickly disappear.......from experience.  Same technique outside the reef, can be a quiet deadly at times.  If the current running really hard add a small running sinker but you want it to drift down the water column

Every chance of getting shark mackerel inside the reef, particularly up toward North Passage. Just keep an eye out for fish feeding under small flocks of birds (preferably terns).

We had a 3.5m inflatable up

Fri, 2019-12-20 20:55

We had a 3.5m inflatable up there last year. Got out over the reef easily. Went back in after a few hours to pick up the kids. Went back out and it wasn't so easy with a wave breaking over us. Thankfully it wasn't big but scared the little people.

Quickly got on the fish which distracted them and followed the south channel on the way home.

have look at the weather before you bother taking it. Very windy up there this time of the year. I am there now and all the boats are just sitting on their trailers.
