Cost to service

Keen to hear what you were charged for a recent service. I have a Merc 135/150hp 4 stroke, I expect some Covid tax but just received a quote for over $1,000 and fell off my chair. The motor is still in warranty period, so keen to use a registered Merc dealer. Is the dealer taking the piss?

well i got a quote two months
well i got a quote from one local boating dealership ,, two months ago for a service on my 2016 90 2st yammy ,, price quoted was $670.. so i rang local legend phil nash ,he does private work not a dealer , he did it for $360. new plugs , fuel filter, thermostat, impellor , new oil in leg , very happy with the job, he even fitted an new inspection port on the pod for us in that price ,,
two weeks later i he did the tinny motor , 2 st 9.9 johno ,, plugs, oil in leg, impellor , did atune up and replaced the fuel hose etc . $270 .... so again cant complain ,, both a running sweet as
pays to shop around if you cant or dont have time your self

I recently had a 400 hour service done on a yammie f175 , when i rang up to book in was quoted roughly $800 , thought yeah probably about right ,went to pick up the boat and the bill was 1k i asked what the extra $200 was for and couldn't be given a answer other than that's what it cost , a few words were said then i paid the bill ,but what it really cost was me never spending another $ in that store nor any of my mates will going forward either

Wasn’t rocko
Or mandurah ? I hope .i buy plugs and gearbox oil from Bursons . Rest from yammy dealer . Replaced sacrificial skeg. Plugs, oils . Filters .3 gaskets impeller. Took out internal anodes ( wire brushed them) ..2 hours work .$235 dollars . Google your best friend if unsure of anything. Only call mechanic if something wrong . General service on yammy pretty easy. After getting done over on very first service . Never went back . Rip off. $550 dollars . Warranty means nothing . I know someone who had brand spanking new yammy . 2 nd trip out oil pick up failed. You would think 100 percent covered not the case. Next time you put in for service. Put a few permanent marker dots on plugs/ filters. Then if not changed ask the question . Trust me there is a minority of agents who charge and don’t replace. What they charge you for. I seen one personally ( yep all done) 1 st trip out no water coming out . Overheated , towed in . Impella had to be cut off. ( no chance it was done) It was shocking. Gear oil .Off colour .apparently fully serviced. Many more cases ( to many to mention)$3.50 for 1 zippy tie .( must be gold) not all are the same .1 always stands out all the time. Loves doing people over. Buyer beware . Do your homework . Mobile guys can still do your work in front of you . Still keep your warranty. Another option if your unhappy with your last service price

Nah LG it was Aquasports
Nah LG it was Aquasports Marine in canningvale, then went outside to hook my boat up and had 2 salesman stand there and watch me reverse up to trailer , thought after paying a 1k to these guys they would at least offer to guide me back to the tow hitch but nope they were more comfortable leaning against a boat watching me , as i said not happy with price getting changed and the customer service was shithouse so i won't ever be going back there and that was my first visit there too

Lift Cylinder seals
Found the lift cylinder seals had died so did some looking for replacement seals.
Found the cheapest set online were $82 plus postage and the genuine ones were $123.
Took the ram apart and went down to bearing service, got the 3 internal seals for $1.65 and waiting for the external water seal to arrive for $6.20

The thing to watch out for
The thing to watch out for with non-genuine lip seals in particular, is whether the little spring is stainless or not.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

150 Mercury 12 months service
Just booked my motor in for service mid Feb. Motor has only done 67 hrs. Quoted arround $950 from ASM and about the same from Hi Tech North of the river. To me I could live with $500 to $600 definatly feels like a rip off at that price. Just wondering if ther are any other options and still be asble to maintain six year waranty?
