bmac is correct on the Rankin Cods Epinephelus multinotatus

The middle one is a Banded Grouper Epinephelus amblycephalus - beautiful looking fish!

They are a couple of great Rankins there.

What did you get them on?

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Thanks for the speedy reponses guys. We thought they were Rankins and as a result we definately kept and ate them...they tasted awsome.. The reason i posted them was because a mate of mine told me they werent Rankins.(so he was wrong)

The middle one on the other hand i had no idea what it was and he went back on the release weight...... Are Banded Grouper nice to eat?

dkonig82: We caught them on fresh squid fairly standard 50lb bottom bounceing rigs/gear. This trip (4 weeks) we got out offshore in the boat about 5 times due to bad weather so didnt play around with jigs and plastics much at all..
