Covid in the house

Writing these Covid observations as I sit here watching my three kids sprawled on the couch watching youtube

I returned a positive RAT test Monday night after returning from an 8km run and being a bit sniffly and the Mrs insisting I use one. I was completely surprised at the result as I felt fine otherwise. Since then I've had two of my kids return a positive test last night and one that is very sick but returned a negative test.

Myself (thrice vaxed) history of chronic asthma and chest infections spending a lot of my youth in hospital (twice with pneumonia) but otherwise very fit am absolutely fine with a bit of a tickle in my throat. The Mrs and I did an hour kickboxing session on the pads last night and I'd love to go for a run if I was allowed.

The Mrs (thrice vaxed) has been constantly exposed to me around the house, same bed, bathroom etc, kissing the kids and helping clean up their vomit all with no mask and has no symptoms and is testing negative.

Oldest son 12 (unvaxed) went downhill extremely quickly yesterday afternoon and tested positive. Very listless with a slight temperature, headaches, chills and aches and has vomiting a few times throughout the night and into the day.

Middle son 9 (unvaxed) went downhill extremely quickly yesterday afternoon and tested negative and again at night. Listless with a fever and a high temperature, sore stomach, chills and has been vomiting constantly throughout the night and into the day. Our best friend is an ER nurse so she's giving us advice on treating him at home and when to consider taking him in if required.

Daughter 7 (unvaxed) tested positive with no symptoms. Vomitted once during the night, listless with a headache and no temperature and just vomited again.

Thankfully we've got great neighbours and my folks around the corner so just had a pile of stuff dropped off including hydralyte, kid's panadol and nurofen, some icepoles, easter eggs, more RATS and a carton of Asahi for us to enjoy when the kids recover.

Absolutely spewing as we had tomorrow and Friday pegged to take the boys out for a good demersal bash before heading down to Hopetoun with my folks to see my brother's family but hopefully we'll make up for lost time the second week of the school hols if some accomodation pops up.

No good mate. Hopefully you all recover.

A mate of mine had it go through his house. Youngest first, dad the next day and other son the next day...Mum got it on day 7.

Both our kids (8 and 5) are double vaccinated and I would give them the 3rd if I could as soon as possible.

Funny how it hits people so

Wed, 2022-04-13 12:54

Funny how it hits people so differently. My whole family has been crook the last 3-4 weeks. Wife and kids really knocked around and missing work and school. All symptoms suggesting covid but every rat coming back negative. Karratha schools absolutely overflowing with it. Attendance for the last week a combination of sick kids not attending and parents holding kids at home so their holidays weren't spoilt by quarantine.
We've just been up at Cape Levique for last few days and the communities there all have cases.

Wishing the best with it jack and Co.

My 11 year old brought it home 3 weeks ago, unvaxed she had a temp...bit lethargic then two days later a runny nose and fine.

Wife temps for 3 days, tight chest and throat then came good.

Myself similar...chest and throat main thing...still a slight tickle in throat but no issues with energy levels.

All the best with it for you

Wed, 2022-04-13 13:46

All the best with it for you and the family. Certainly can knock some around a fair bit. Hedland had it go through the high school , kids and teachers. Sandy had 3 of her co workers down with it last week. Thankfully she has tested negative every time. So far (touch wood ) even tho I deal with lots of people every day with work I have come back negative as well.

Wed, 2022-04-13 18:46

Gotta remember that there are multiple variations of this flu floating around so some are still getting Delta which, as we all recall, was more vicious

one of our cleaners at work was picked up on our mandatory RATs and he didn't get sick at all whereas my mate, two weeks later, is still coughing up a lung

Swampa,

"so some are still getting Delta "   ... how do you know that?.  You do realise not all the positive diagnosed cases are actually sequenced for genotyping right?

There are only a selected group that are sequenced - to be specific: health care workers and those admitted to ED/hospital admissions (that are positive) are the major two.

The major subtype here in Perth is the Omnicron one.   Unless you know first hand that the Delta is being sequenced - please tell.

Thu, 2022-04-14 10:46

Lets just turn on our thinking brains in and work off the assumption that Delta hasnt just disappeared.

No doubt that Omocron would by far be the dominant strain but Delta would still be out there.

Much like Eagles and Dockers are the domonant supporter over here, Collingwood fans still exist.

Hope you're in the clear soon Frosty and get to enjoy the second week of the school holidays. When my kids were little we went to Port Douglas for 12 days and had 2 days when one of us wasn't afflicted by a horrible 48 - 72 hour gastro bug. The place was a biological hazard!

Timing

Thu, 2022-04-14 14:34

The timing on catching it couldn't have been worse for a lot of us, school holidays, bookings down south etc , makes me remember when I was 13, we were supposed to go on holidays down to Aunty's in Pemberton then off down the Donnelly river for a fortnight and bugger me, pain in stomach on the day before we were to leave.

Off to hospital and out come the appendix, in those days it was 7 -10 days in hospital even though I only had a cut about 2 inches long and 3 stitches and snuck out of bed every time the Nuns backs were turned

Everyone sick except me I

Sat, 2022-04-16 13:17

Everyone sick except me

I have 2 Daughters

My 4 and 6 year old were playing at a house with a covid positive kid, thought 6 yr old would have as they are in class together  she tested negative.

Yougest tested positive but wasnt even really sick, Just a bit grizley maybe a slight fever.

About 3 days later my partner got it, took 3 days to show positive on the rat test  she had sore through  flue like sympoms .... Still functioned ok.

The next day my eldest daughter (6) contracted it. she vomited for 24 hours..

I Work in construction I was rat testing daily and wearing a mask outside the home I didnt get sick at all..... Even though I was kinda trying to get it, to get it over and done with.

I let my kids jump all over me and kissed everybody goodnight. not changing how i treat my misso and kids for nothing.

My Misso testing positive 10 days later.... I must be part of this cleansing/reset everyone is talking about haha!

Haha lucky you, I'd rather be wiped out than share the planet with the type that talk about the great reset

We thought the same thing about the Mrs but she tested positive this morning and she's had to now hit the reset on her iso for another 7 days. I'm out Monday and she's requested some fresh fish so more than happy to oblige.

Thanks Unc and Andy feeling a lot better today than yesterday. My 17 yr old son still hasn't got it funny how some people don't get it. If it were a normal flu he usually is the first to get it and last to get rid of it.

My clan has bounced back and were all at footy training running around last night. I trained heavy cardio in the garage up until the weekend's beerfest and punched out an 8km run last night with no issues. The Mrs tested + Sat and was wiped out Sun to Wed with fatigue and body aches but she has been hitting the beers too...

Reading up a little yesterday

Fri, 2022-04-22 08:55

Reading up a little yesterday about covid, I aint no conspiracy theorist lol - it had to do with blood types, people with o types were less likely to catch covid and people with the A / B variants were more susceptible.
I know people will shoot this down straight away and I couldn't give two hoots, just thought it was interesting as I'm O-Neg which in itself has been interesting to learn more about. (Interesting fact - O-Neg blood can be given to anyone in need when blood type is unknown, but I can only receive O-Neg in return)
I have always known this about my blood type as I have served in the military and was reminded of this fact when deployed but never really looked into it further until recently.

On a more serious note, I hope everyone on here and their families who have caught covid are coping well and have a speedy recovery :-)

Definitely mate, I have just started to head back into the office one day a week and every second person has had it within the last month or so, the common theme is it's coming from kids at school and then family to family as they socialise and get back into "normal" life.
