Crabbing

Got the drop nets on the boat ready for a bash tomorrow and would expect fisheries to pay a visit when we return-----bit late though. Have seen boats out crabbing for the last week and scoopers up the estuary getting an early start and not an officer to be seen, always the way isn't it.

IMO
Has been way to cold and havent seen many off the wall at all compared to usual December start date.
Wont bother yet at all down here in Mandurah until hot weather set in (and stay!!!)

Xmas crabs?
Not a popular thought but , I still say and do ,no crabbing until after xmas .... sizes and usually weather much better in the new year...
thats very dissapointing to hear of crabbing before dec 1 st ,,,,, sometimes it just seems that fisheries are too busy sweating the little things
but ignoring the elephants in the room .....

Dawesville crabbing
Went for a dip yesterday and today, not a single size crab around the parkridge area. Talking to a boatie, from daybreak until 10 o'clock he had one only size crab, guess it will be a few weeks yet before it's worth the effort.

Today
Got 10, 7 blueys + 3 womannies, had to work hard for them. First spot lots of undersize and females with berries , did one pull then shifted. Second spot looked good on first pull with 4 from 4 then petered out.
Lost a pot to the trawler dragging its gear while getting rid of the weed wrack in Bunbury harbour, wasn't too fussed as pot was on its last legs anyway. His problem now with the rope and pot wrapped around his prop.

Hey mate, when u scoop in
Hey mate, when u scoop in the river, do u mainly go at night, or early morning? Never tried scooping in the river, but would be much easier than towing the kids down to Mandurah just to have them loose interest after half an hour lol!
