Crabbing

Hey guys, might be a silly question, but is there a car limit for crabs from mandurah? Driving down with 2 mates on the weekend. I know it's 10 per person when scooping. I know that it's 20 per boat. ( we won't be boating), but just wanted to make sure all good if we take 7 or 8 each and transport them back In the same car? Not looking to smash anything, just enough for dinner for each immediate family.

cheers!

As per Bodgy, individual bag limit of 10 per person, so no drama at all.

Crazy that this is the case i.e. 5 people in a car can take 50 crabs whilst there is a limit of 20 per boat.

Yes and if you take a 5 people in a boat across the estuary , get out , scoop crabs on foot , hop back in boat your only allowed 20 as long as theres at least 2 lic holders on board ( not that you need more ) but its the inconsistency.....

A large family say 8 people , none with any lic at all can take 80 size crabs in the car ( dont tell me it dont happen , my mandurah mate has spied drums full)

agreed.

it strikes me as strange that there is no car limit, hence the query.

just my 2 cents, but:

with the population built up around the waterways these days, i personally believe this fishery need smore protection.

car limits make absolute sense to me. and just catch what is needed for a meal. i have personally found crabs dont store well, so see no point in taking more than what will feed the family, and then go again when the urge striles! frozen crabs arent going to breed, might as well leave them swimming until want them!.

guess its always the case that a select few will undo any efforts of those who try to do the right thing.

i will put my soap box away now :)

Just another mis managed fishery in WA

People need protecting from themselves and rules to push people in the general direction of common sense are needed , whilst not becoming a police state tye mentality..

The 5 per day in the swan was the most common sense shown in the last 10 years in WA ..

Crabs dont well freeze period , so its catch enough for a feed and your done but as you say you simply cant rely on people to do the righty....
