Submitted by crano on Sat, 2020-01-18 18:50
I was in Denmark in early november and we were fishing in the inlet. We were catching king george whiting from 400 to 450 long.trouble was when we went to eat them they were crap. I threw the rest away as did my mate. Has anybody here had the same thing ?

I know
After spending so much time in Coral Bay your tastebuds have become acclimatized to enjoying fish only caught above the 26th parallel !

Terrible taste
Late November we had a couple of good size mullet we caught and cooked up and they had a very muddy taste about them, yet the mullet where caught down Dawesville way and not right up the southern end of the estuary where I know a lot of the mullet do have a bad taste about them.
It's a disappointment when you have good size fish which have a taste that makes them quite unpalatable and only fit for cray or crab bait.
A bit like catching buff bream good size fish give a good account of themselves on light line but to me are totally inedible.

Caught a ripper 59cm KG and was very disappointed on the chew factor, even had the odd Dhu that was average, pretty hard to beat Snapper caught in the 150m mark

Wilson Inlet
Hey Cranno,
The inlet hasn't been opened to the ocean this year due to low rain fall, guessing this has contributed to what your tasting - first time in a long time they haven't dug it out.
We haven't done any whiting fishing this year as to bloody busy working but normally they taste just fine..
Cheers Greg

remove skin
you have to take both sides of the skin off when filleting down there- the muddy taste is in the skin but I found when i skinned both sides they were good to go- that was 4 years ago when i was last there and they didnt open the river mouth that year either
the snapper taste like shit too
