Cray Pot ethics

Hi All,

It is alarming that only 3 days into the season and already 1 pot stolen. It is really concerning people refer to pots as shopping trollys ( be it a joke or not) and actually do not own a single pot themselves.

I don't have the answer, how we as a group can stop this behaviour, but appeal to everyone to respect both Comercials and recreation pots. Respect is mutual, for Comercials this is their source of income, for recreational it's hard enough trying to find a gap between work and weather to get a feed. I trust the authorities will enforce the full punishment for culprits that get caught, because I know if I catch anyone on mine or my friends pots they will delt with accordingly.

LETS MAKE A STAND TOGETHER!

holiday time the worst, thats why I sometimes dive, try using water balloons with dye in them.attach to floats .you know its there but others don't, good luck bad start ,on the grape vine fair few pots gone already, another good 1 is to burn in your pot id into main supports on your pot (deep),all 4 sides.at least when fisheries do there checks pulling pots and the 2 don't match .(floats to your engraving) you may get pot back, and person gets caught,

This pot tampering stealing call it what you like...would be a far lesser problem if the lazy arsed fisheries would do their job.

Not worth two squirts of billy goat piss when it comes to looking out for the pricks doing this. Take plenty of $ of us and give sweet F all in return.

after loosing all our pots

Sun, 2014-10-19 16:11

after losing all our pots over the past 2 seasons, we decided the only way forward was to get our dive tickets. fishing for crays with pots is a mugs game. Hope to get out for our first dive of the season on Tuesday. At least if we don't get any crays we can only blame ourselves.

Just a little bit of subject

Has anyone used silver rope on their pots, I have been offered a good length of 20mm silver rope and I'm considering using it for my cray pots.

Can anyone offer pros and cons on this stuff (it is brand new )
Thanks for all info.

 Will be easy to handle,

Will be easy to handle, that's for sure, though may be mistaken for a mooring (lol)

depending on depth, it shouldn't be a problem, though if you go deep, your pot may get dragged in the surge

Thanks Swompa

I can't think of any reason not to use silver rope but I'm sure there are a lot of members who have had a lot more experience with ropes than me and any input is appreciated.

I wouldn't use it mate as it wears against surfaces fairly easily.

I don't have a boat let alone

Wed, 2014-10-22 03:27

I don't have a boat let alone pots out, but it's a proper dog act to pull someone elses gear.  Bunch of idiots, if ya got a boat that can get out where pots are why not just get ya own gear sorted and get ya own instead of bummin of other people.  In my opinion wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy crays instead of spending fuel to look for someones pots?  I know if I saw someone touching my gear I'd be tailing them all day.  I feel sorry for all the boys who go out dropping pots and end up with some idiot trying to pull em.  Either way I'm just waitin for crab season to open enjoy ya roaches haha.
