Yes Russ, prices were disgusting. I bit the bullet and bought a 3 kilo box of locally caught cooked tiger prawns from Coles, cost $80 or there abouts, but they’re the best prawns I’ve had in a long while.

Cray price
I went and bought a dozen oysters for 18.95. They didn't know where they were from. "If there not coffin bay they are from tassie". Cray price was $109.95kg. WTF. Maybe the state should get involved.

Do you honestly think
Government would sell to local market for quarter of price they could get overseas ? I wouldn't think so . Just a money grab

I know
Just a passing comment. Would hate the govt to enter the market. Cervantes this Friday until 6th so will be plenty of crays and dhus coming. Oh and got occy pots out so might even give marinating a go.

Interesting
I have expressed my views on government involvement in business previously, it will be interesting to see just what they will do with the crays they obtain.

Saw crays in Mandurah Forum
Saw crays in Mandurah Forum "fish market" for $85 a kg last week. I turned around and walked away, they didn't look the freshest. I remember paying $110 a kg for crays at the butcher in Kalgoorlie a few years ago. Considering Kal's location and the fact the crays were as fresh as they could get, seems a pretty good price now. I wasn't thrilled at the time though haha

prob is people pay that
prob is people pay that price so they keep on going. if people didnt pay the sell would be forced to sell cheaper or he will get stuck with lots of crays going in the bin

Russ do U know people that
Russ do U know people that buy Cray's?
I don't.
The price is reflective of what Mr Wong pays in Shanghai and has nothing to do with a few desperados splashing Chrissy cash.
Can't knock the fisherman but exporting of our best seafood
Is an issue.

def dont knock the fishos . its the wholesalers and retailers that are a rip off.
from my understanding the first link in the chain being the fisho doesnt make too much per kg after expences

The prices stated above
The prices stated above don't to me seem inflated.
I'm not sure how the price is holding up in WA but I'm back in SA atm and I know fellas here that have caught half their quota and haven't sold anything below a hundred bucks.
