line busters
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2018-12-25 21:38
after our last 2 trip out and getting busted off big time by what we guess as big dhuies (6 times ) knowing the area . using 60lb line which has never let us down seems to be a bit under guned with these bigguns .
What poundage line do others use for the monsters from the deep.

I fish much lighter
Only 30lb rainbow braid with 60lb leader........I find if you use soft hands and are patient you don’t get bricked very often. Just my view, it is fishing not skull dragging!

If bait fishing
And chasing dhuies, normally 80-100lb.
If jigging, I never really use anything more than 50lb in the metro area

120 to 150 leeder and 50 pnd
120 to 150 leeder and 50 pnd braid. Also use tri crane swivels rated as high as i can find, not so much for breaking strain but seem to twist more easily than a smaller grade, so when yr fishing deep yr rig don't come up wrapped round itself a million times.

PE2 and 40 lb leader
PE2 and 40 lb leader jigging, but got bricked by a big Dhu Christmas morning on a sneaky fish before I picked up the kids at Rotto off the Ferry.....could have done with PE3 and 60 lb, which should catch anything metro.
