Crayfish worms/parasite

 Gday everyone,

I just received this photo from a mate. Seems like some kind of worm of some sort has come out of the crayfish. He said the cray looked normal before he dropped it in the pot, boiled it whole for 8 mins, strained the hot water out of the pot, filled it back up with ice water and left to cool down. Come back 5 minutes later and all that crap was floating on top of the water.

Any ideas?

He said the flesh looked fine and presumed it has come out of the head of the cray. I've done some googling myself but couldn't come up with anything

Have you seen this before uncle? Or you just referring to the other smelly gunky crap that fills the pot when boiled whole?

I think I have seen this before.

Just something they exude after cooking, don't think it's a worm or parasite. In fact, I have never seen anything of that sort infest a cray, only that fungus that was around in the nineties(?) then disappeared. Thinking back, it may actually be part of the gills ( yes, they do have gills) which comes away when cooking?

Eat on and report back

Thanks for the reply, yeah being a part of the gills makes sense. That explains how they are all clustered together.

Yeah my mate ate it coz he said the flesh looked fine, that was this morning and he is still alive so all good haha.
