Crays Second Run

Seems quiet on the cray front with nobody really talking much about them so I though I would throw a line.

We went out today and got 9 keepers diving with a couple of soft ones amonst them. Seems the second run hasnt happened yet. Does anyone have any theories??

PS Aussie V Kiwis cant wait t... Cmon Aussies!!

Haven't checked mine for three weeks due to weather and work committments, but the way the weather's looking for Easter I'll be out every day. But we've been doing ok Tom the last few times around 5-8 keepers each check.

Hi Tom I jumped in this

Sun, 2015-03-29 19:01

Hi Tom I jumped in this morning and the 3 of us bagged out in 1 dive. Size was great with 9 of them over 3kg. Few soft shells amongst all sizes. Was diving 18-20m if that helps. Can't comment too much as only just got back to perth so first dive since New Years. Will strike again later in week though

Two Rocks

Mon, 2015-03-30 07:55

Was down in Two Rocks Saturday morning when a mate came in with 15 good reds from 4 pots, he said they have been averaging 12 for most of the season using roughie heads, less for salmon and blue mack.

Two Rocks

Mon, 2015-03-30 20:08

Went out to check my pots Sat morning, on the way out noticed a boat in my gear area, gave them the benefit of the doubt, but, was a bit sceptical as they fled the area after noticing I was coming there way, sure enough pots were empty and in different positions. (The only pots in that area)

It's my first attempt at the cray chasing thing this year not starting till late feb, I know I was late into it but am dissapointed and saddened at how people can knowingly pull other peoples gear.

I live an hour away from the marina so it isn't easy for me to get there too early let alone every other day.

Sorry my first post for ages is negative but i feel gutted.

Local Knowledge

The mate, Taffy, is a former professional cray and shark fisherman who has lived in Two Rocks nearly since day one, his house was the twentieth built in the town. I thought I was good when I was there but he would consistently beat me on numbers.

All the big lumps and ledges are well known to all and sundry but its the little lumps away from them that produce when things get quiet, so instead of getting one or two you will pick up six or over then move your pot to another lump, not coming back to the same one for weeks. Don't be scared to head down to the area off Club Capricorn or north passed the Map and Mallee reefs

They are there

Tue, 2015-03-31 08:22

There has been consistant catches Tom but just not large amounts. Looks like the run is pretty strung out and just not as bunched up as it was earlier. I go to Mindarie and Two Rocks regularly and most of the guys coming in have almost got their quota.

There were a lot of posts Gtrmosh dealing with the subject of pot pullers. These scum have been doing it for years and it seems like they never get caught. Like yourself they are seen around the area but with no evidence of them pulling, so no way to be positive it is them. Make sure you mark your own pots, not just the floats, because worse than getting them pulled is the guys who cut your floats and attach their own.. Double scum of the earth.

 Yeah mate, ropes were

Sat, 2015-04-04 14:58

Yeah mate, ropes were covered in slime, each pot had around 8 or 9 crays so a few undersize. Some of the other guys were destroyed by occys, one reckons the occy was still in the cray when he pulled the pot on board. Pots will come out next trip as we will start losing beach up here soon and will be unable to launch.
