in close for sure!

Thu, 2007-11-22 12:47

In close right now Kal, the full moon is making them tuck themselves in and soft shells also. I'd stay in the 6-15m mark.....close in too!

Always variances!

deep

Thu, 2007-11-22 13:57

put 80fthm ropes on and 8 floats and go out the deep m8 cos the whites have run early arleady down there like they did last year! the swell didnt help them any either! we started getting some good pots 2day at leeman but no soft shells, theyve had an early malt this year but some boonta males coming up! just very inconsistent.

Headed out with Tapout for

Fri, 2007-11-23 16:27

Headed out with Tapout for our first dive for the season ,wash the dust off the gear.
First stop hit straglers ocean side ,tapout started throwing up.We hit the water after it cleared On the decend i started having a severe pain from behind my left eye ,i kept trying to equalize till it went away ,I think it may have been caused by hayfever.,we seen 6 crays between the two us, Tapout caught two, one size and one under size , (returned).Water temp was 20 c .As im waiting for tapout to stop spuing,a massive Fisheries boat was waiting near by so i took down the dive flag and then they approached us. They asked if we had got any we said two , we showed them the sized one ,and measured it in front of them again, they asked how big it was ,which was around 79mm carpace .then asked for our names ,licence ,date of birth .Then went through the saftey gear and had to show them .We asked if any one else got any they said no.Second dive was at an island cant say where as there was quite a few around, big whites ,but just too far in and very easily spooked water temp was onl;y 18 c .My tapout managed a buety of a female He was over the moon had a smile from ear to ear even with the reg in his mouth ,till i showed him the eggs underneath, the looking of disapointment on his face was pretty amusing to me.Will be back in a week ,drop the tanks off to get them rechecked get them back next Friday so bring it on.

Pain

Fri, 2007-11-23 16:31

I know exactly the pain you are talking about Kal. I was free diving the other day and after coming off the bottom had a shooting pain through the back of my left eye. Couldn't get down more than a meter after that without shooting/stabbing behind the eye, very annoying.

Sat, 2007-11-24 21:07

My family dived yesterday and confirmed an early malt and an early walk like last year. Subsequetly we've moved our pots out to the 20m edge now so hopefully alls good. They found sound awesome whites yesterday and i'll be out with them in da morning to see whats happening......get my sea time up for my master 5 skippers ticket also!

seems!

Mon, 2007-11-26 10:42

Both boats yesterday did well for the first pot pull of the season. Seems the whites have walked from the beach but most all of the crays we're still inside the 20m edge. We had a few tester pots outside the 20m edge and nothing so that's a good sign that they haven't bolted deep.

The 10-12m mark on the sand edge to the reef ledge got the best results!

swell

Mon, 2007-11-26 19:51

pray for no swell ryan! or its all over! the wx the last week hasnt help either, the crays dont know whats going on! today was the first day of proper whites wx weve had up here screaming southerlies and no swell and the full moon wont help, as soon as the moon goes m8 theyll be putting their walking shoes on! most of the good crays up here are hard up on the edge, u put pots out in the sand as u would for a normal whites run and they come up empty! early malt so they dont have to bury themselves in the sand, the shells are hard enough to take cover on the edges!

agree mate!

Yeh Agree Tangles.........one good swell that pushes 3m plus will push them over the hill. We'll move the pots out then but today was good and so was yesterday so we'll stay put until such time!

Wed, 2007-11-28 16:46

between Garden and Carnac is going ok at the moment from this old fart at work. So is his "secret spot" at the back or Seal Isl. around 65ft deep. Isolated reef apparantly! .........Feel the force.........

about 200 pots out behind 3

Wed, 2007-11-28 18:43

about 200 pots out behind 3 mile at oceanreef and 7 crayboats working them today!

You would think it would be slim pickings with that much competition, couldn't find any fish in the shallow stuff, picked up 4 dhuies, 1 flattie and 1 blackbut in 40m.

Not so quick

Wed, 2007-11-28 19:51

seems the pros are playing in close....a few pots might have been brought back into the 16....

Friendly 'new' compliance lady at OR this morning.....seems one bloke couldnt load his boat quick enough....and she wasnt quick enough....
We suggest that a better place to check boats was the wash down area......all traffic has to drive out that way.....and maybe stop the ones which dont want to stop to wash down ....wonder why

We did ok today ....a red amongst them as well.....
the firechief was a happy man when his crappy old placcy (which I had previously given him poop about) was hauled  aboard crawling with crochies

good luck....

pristine whites!

Fri, 2007-11-30 07:55

We've actually been getting the pure pristine Whites back near the beach so we're thinking that the initial run didn't happen but this weekend high swell will see an end to that and they'll bolt!

Still moving house (oh the joys) but looking forward to a dive soon!
