it was a yo zuri in orange 3 gram i think , if you have poloroids you can spot the cuttleys right on the rocks in the weed as they are bright orange and love the jib , trouble is they were hard to land on small bream gear and ill be taking a landing net with me tomoro , got a few looks from the seniror members fishing today catching herring

What??
A comp?? So that they can cop more of a slaying than they already do? What a crap idea! They are ahardly a sporting target.

GusG....there's no squid
GusG....there's no squid comp ever and why not one now?? Its not like you can kill all the squid there is, as they'll live for a yr to breed then die naturally. You'd be surprise how sporting they are. I'm currently looking at stocking squidding rods and accessories for landbased fisherman. Over in Japan, squidding is as big as jigging and the industry is huge there. If the fishery is well managed and looked after we can have a great squid fishery.

I
agree totally Honsu, it takes a bit of finesse to feel a squid take the lure, sometimes they hit like a fish biting and others they seem to gently pull as if there tenticles are testing the lure. And as you said the life span is relatively short which is great for Anglers who target them. Also you have to entice a strike sometimes as well, not by slowly winding in the lure, you have to put some action on it yourself. I enjoy catching squid heaps. I think a comp. would be fun and that's important in my fishing these days........Maxy.......

Fair enough
I stand corrected. I did nto realise that there was so much to it. Having said that, I am not a very good squidder. I certainly have not yet sussed out the squid fishery over here in WA.

squid fishing!
Yeh your not alone Gus in thinking that way, we in WA are mearly following the bigger picture of what Japan fisho's are doing and the squiding buzz is getting bigger & better!
We'll be stocking more squid jigs despite having a sh!t load now and more accessories for sure, including squiding rods as Honsu mentioned.....for next season!

Yep
Yep, squidding is big up here in Exmouth too. Except we troll for them, generally in 1m of water, with varying size squid jigs for the country.
Once you hit a school you use the second rod to cast to the rest, you have to take it pretty easy on them not to get blasted!! To tell the squid are on, just look for the old timers with black ink sprayed down the sides of their boats! Their good fun to catch as a change up and are bloody tasty too. (also freeze well!!) I could see a comp happening with a max line class, the big ones really give you stick on light line.

Have caught a few cuttlefish
Have caught a few cuttlefish before in deepwater on hooks but seen these two on the edge of the rocks , still wouldnt try to eat them as they are awaiting in the freezer in anticipation of some serious dhufish action , I think a comp would be fun and interesting a the moment as theres plenty around

thats right Pete
Thats right Peter, i like the handline the best for squid and cuttleys, i find you gives you a much better feel, having said that i use the rod most of the time and sometimes lose ones that maybe i would have otherwise got on a handline.

Each
to there own, whatever works best. I used to use a handline but the line wrap and shit at ya feet gives me the shites so now I use a light tip rod with fine braid, you feel the tenticles hit the lure! NO BULL.....That's NO BULL!.......Maxy.......
