What species are you primarily going to be fishing for? and I guess where are you going to be fishing as well.

Why would you put PE5-6 on

Why would you put PE5-6 on it if its a 3-5 rod? Guessing based on the length that you'll be using it for casting? Is so, then 6500 sized reel might get a little tiring casting all day (unless you need to use a reel that big like for GT fishing, but rod wouldnt be matched).

What are you wanting to use the combo for?

Hmmm, time to find a new fishing shop, hehe.

Other reels would match better IMO.

Jack I have one of the 6'6"

Jack I have one of the 6'6" catalina rods (PE4 rated) with a 4500 Catalina reel.

6500 definately too big/heavy for the rod and it will be unbalanced and a pain to use - go the catalina 4500.  (don't know why they are recommending the 6500 for the rod but let me guesss they didn't have a 4500 in stock??).  They are a nice reel and you wont be disappointed,  You'll get around 270m of PE4 (approx 50lb depending on the line) one the 4500 spool which should be plenty for casting.

Cheers

 Paul

Jack, the only time I'll ever use a 6500 size reel is when I'm GT fishing, there is nothing in Perth that will stretch a decent 4500 reel within reason. I even stopped using my 20k Stella for sambo jigging and downsized to a Saltiga Z4500, still never lost any fish and I think they were boated a lot easier.

Maybe have a look at the Saltist spin reels, as from what I can gather they have replaced the old Saltiga blast.
