live fibre
cant comment on the shimano as I have not used one but the Live fibre LBG is a great rod for this application, a bit more $$$$ though

Backbone
The shimano backbone is a way heavyier rod compaired to the live fibre , I have the live fibre with the saltist 50 and it a good match. also use the Penn 114 highspeed reel with it.

The problem I've found about
The problem I've found about the backbones is the reels move about in the seat and they snap quite easly as well I think the t-curve revolution series is a much better rod How ever they do cost more. If you want to Get one cheap though go to motackle they sell them for around $170 I think.
