Daiwa Space Age Reel Greaser
Submitted by lachieH on Sun, 2015-05-10 14:28
hi everyone, I just got some daiwa reel greaser to hopefully increase the performance of my reels after been accidentally dropped in salt water a couple times, but my feels are shimano. Is that alright?
i did try it on my little Sedona 1000FD and put it on the main shaft but it doesn't seem as smooth as it is meant to be, actually it locks up a little bit. Will this eventually stop?

daiwa grease on shimano reels
daiwa grease on shimano reels are fine.
as for the reel locking up ....who knows. Sedonas aren't really known for their water proofing.
water could have gotten into the gearing system etc and no amount of grease on the shaft will help that without opening it up for a full service.
when you grease it make sure you put a bit of grease around the rubber washer on the drag knob (edit: if the sedonas have one !)

Yeah, if it was fully
Yeah, if it was fully submerged you'll be better off taking it apart and giving it a decent clean.
Even after that, once you drop a non-sealed reel in the water they never feel the same no matter how well you clean them.

i dropped my shimano reel in
i dropped my shimano reel in sand and it was completely washed over by sea water. i basically took the whole thing apart and cleaned it, then applied some grease and all is good now

Yeah ok I will but some
Yeah ok I will but some grease on the Sedona's rubber washer (yes it does have one) and try clean it as best as possible. I will have a look at a couple pro reel servicing videos on YouTube and might take the reel apart even more. It has got much better and is now smoother.
thanks for the advice
