Daiwa surf sensor 12ft with daiwa Emblem pro

Bought myself the two above mentioned rod and reel last week. Going for a fishing comp Saturday afternoon to Saturday evening. Hopefully I'll get the chance to brake it in in the best way by hooking up to a nice mullaway or a nice little bronzie.

Cheers
Happy fishing

Nice combo there Bobby. I own

Tue, 2012-06-05 23:35

Nice combo there Bobby. I own a Emblem Pro and an older version Emblem X. They are great reels for landbased fishing and lure chucking. They are also a very powerful reel, despite having a high retrieve rate. I have stopped some mahoosive big black stingrays on mine(not intentionally fishing for them though). In saying that i have also tackled some unstoppables on them too :)

I run 40lb Braid on one spool for lure chucking and 30lb mono on the other spool for sending out baits attached to lead. I run my Emblem X on my 13ft Loomis and Franklin Shockwave.

Coupled with the nice light Sensor 12ft it would be beautiful to cast metals and poppers all day for Tailor, Salmon, Macks, etc.

I just bought a 10ft Sensor that i have bee running my Emblem Pro on. Goes good, but reel does feel a bit too heavy for the 10ft Sensor. Thinking of matching it with a Daiwa Emcast Sport 4500 instead. Yep another few $$$ to fishing hahahaha!

Have fun with it mate, i am sure you'll love it and will go hard on any fish you hook up onto!

30pb braid with 40pd leader

Wed, 2012-06-06 00:35

Do you think 30 pd braid with 40pd leader is a okay for small sharks and 40pd mono with 50pd leader for the extra spool with the 12ft sensor

Cheers

Happy fishing

You will need a much heavier

You will need a much heavier leader than 40lb if you're chasing sharks. Even the small ones have razor sharp teeth!

Sounds like it would be fine,

Sounds like it would be fine, if anything a bit on the heavy side for the mono. But totally depends on what YOU are comfortable fishing with and where you are fishing, how you are fishing and what you are fishing for.

I mainly use the braid for casting lures as i can cast further and can work a better action on the lures. I use 40lb Sufix with 55lb Schnider leader about 3m(nicer to cast with mono on your finger than braid).

I use mono for bait fishing mainly because if you snag up(fishing reefy areas) it easier to bust your rig off and you dont lose expensive braid. Plus you dont have to do fancy knots on a windy or dark beach/rocks. Plus mono will have better abrasion resistance if you are around rocks reefy areas. I use 30lb mono Sufix Tritanium on the spare spool, and even that is hard to purposely bust off whe snagged or hooked on to a big dirty ray. I dont use a wind on leader with mono. I just tie direct to the swivel of the rig which is usually 1-1.5m of 70-100lb mono Schneider.

I will post up a report soon of my trip up the Coral Coast over the long weekend and you can see what i caught on my Emblems ;)
