Damage to Planning Strakes
Submitted by Toby Roe on Wed, 2012-10-17 13:29
Hi All,
I have some damage to the bow section of the planning strakes on my sea ray that I strongly suspect is being caused by the bunks on the trailer. I removed the Teflon strip that the previous owner had on the bunks and replaced it with marine carpet but the damage still seems to be getting worse.
Could anyone recommend a good shipwright or similar that could diagnose the problem with my trailer, set it up properly and then repair the fiberglass and gelcoat on the planning strakes.
Cheers
Toby

where are you?
He is probably only going to watch it come on and off the trailer to see where its hitting though?

I am in Armadale but can take
I am in Armadale but can take the boat anywhere. I have tried to look at the boat coming off the trailer but can't really notice anything too bad although this is my first boat with bunks so I have no idea about what it "should" look like. It is not a nice feeling thinking that I am damaging the boat everytime I launch it.

Gelcoat chipping
trailer in too deep I think , allowing boat to bang side to side causing the chipping until it lines up..I'd be putting the bunker end just in the water and then pulling it up , hopefully that resolves it without the expense of refitting trailer ....chipping looks to be just cosmetic you can buy diy gelcoat repair kits ...hopefully some others will also give their view otherwise relist the topic now you have pics...
