alutechnos are the ferrari's of reels...italian made. Very nice reels, not cheap but excellent quality.

On the cheaper end of the scale theres really only penn that make left handers that arent too overpriced. Such as the 113h Left hand wind. What are the LH avets worth honsu?

I'll buy one too!!!

Very hard to come by I've found, but there were a couple of posts about a month or so back that covered off on left hand conversions for a few Penn reels. You may wish to have a read of that one Kaiser.

Cheers

Had a look at the American Avet website. Don't know anything about the quality but the specs seem Ok and every reel is available in left hand retrieve.

Quality assured mate, avets are awesome from what I've heard. Ask Honsu, I'm pretty sure he's happy with his.

built like a yank tank. Full one piece machined frame, easy to service and has a powerful drag for its size. Ive got the smallest model, the SX 5.1 and it packs a punch with 4.5kg of drag at strike and its similar size to a calcutta 400!! Mine is packing 300m of 50lb braid and 6kg of drag at strike with complete freespool (after abit of modifications of coz)

Ryan's issue was straight

Fri, 2006-10-27 20:21

Ryan's issue was straight out of the box they are dry as bone inside and so was the drag washers. He maxed out his dry drag washers and very notchy. I took it over and greased and relubed the whole lot, modified the drag stack abit and wahla.....smooth as drag and bit more to play with as well.

Straight out of the box they could be better greased. Unsealed gears can be improved by putting a heap of grease in there. That way water cant get in and if they do, they can come back out not stuck in there and corroding the reel away.

They are very simple lever drag reels and can be serviced easily yourself.

Kiaser I guess you'll have to learn to wind right hand otherwise you are going to break your brain trying to find a left handed overhead and possibly within your budget as well.

Why aren't there more left

Why aren't there more left hand winds on the market? As a right hander you should learn to wind with your left so you can pump with your right arm. Well... this is what most people who fish with spinning reels do :/
