Deck cover advice

 G'day all

I've been asked to quote on building a pontoon roughly 3m x 2m which will be moored for kids to swim out to and play on etc.

I'll be fabricating from ali but of course there's the problem of heat during the day and I'd like to avoid the kids getting burnt feet etc when they climb on.

Can anyone suggest a product that doesn't cost a fortune that I can fix to the top that will absorb the heat.

Cheers

Andy

Cheers mate, I'd thought of carpet but my concern with that is getting covered in bird shit. It needs to be something that will self wash if you like when the kids are playing on it.

Perhaps check out a few of the existing pontoons. They use plastic. Know there’s one a Coogee and Jurien Bay

Cheers mate, lol we're actually replacing a plastic one we had up there, the mooring broke and it floated off as was smashed up against the seawall.

Yeah, saw the one at Jurien.  Washed into the beach.  Pretty freaky conditions though.  Don't know if it dragged the mooring or it broke.  That pontoon's deck is pretty standard though.

I'm actually going to look into a poly deck, there's a company called Dotmar that specialises in plastics etc will see what they have.

Was just at coogee yesterday they were using the same grate that is used on floating jetties., maybe that's an option not sure on cost but it would last well.

 Plastic decking gets hot

Tue, 2019-10-29 07:28

Plastic decking gets hot when in the sun, etch prime and non skid deck paint, the water coming off them will cool it enough I would have thought.

Engineered boards

Andy, the one being built at CPBA appears to have engineered boards......might be worth considering as much cooler than artificial grass

Mon, 2019-11-11 20:40

Well I've won the job, will post some pics of the build etc. I bought a brand new  500i WIA inverter series welder end of June for doing ali and heavier jobs etc. This will be a good test for the unit.
