Deckwash options

Hi guys,

I have a Haines Signature 550c and have a space where a 45L fresh water tank can be housed. I am keen in putting in a fresh water deck wash/shower and have the room at the back of the boat to mount the pump and the curly hose and trigger sprayer will fit towards the back of a side pocket.

Originally I was just going to run a smallish pump with fresh water but it wouldn't be very hard to put a 2-way valve in and switch inputs between fresh and sea water. The Jabsco Parmax 4 kit looks good and is recommended by a lot of people but seeing it can pump somewhere between 15-20L/min, would empty my tank very quickly.

Has anyone used the smaller Jabsco parmax 3 which pumps closer to 13L/min.
Or even the little Jabsco parmax 1 which is only 4.2L/min?

I don't really needs heaps of flow, or pressure. Its more so I can use it as a general deck wash when fishing and fresh water wash/shower after wakeboarding and diving etc.

Thanks,
Dale

I personally wouldn't worry about the freshwater option.  I went for just the sea water deckwash.  The bigger, more powerful the better.  What I do want to add in is a switch value so I can use it for my live bait tank......

Live Bait Tank.

Fri, 2014-08-22 15:32

My live bait tank was connected to the deck wash but water flow was to strong and if I restricted the flow with valve at the live bait tank the pump sounded like was always working to hard and life span on unit would probably be reduced, also the power consumption would be high. I removed the connection and is now plumbed to separate small bilge pump on the back transom with under way pick-up tube.

From what I have looked into

From what I have looked into tonight, it might be best to have a smaller 1GPM pump on the freshwater tank with a shower type head for rinsing off etc and it wont drain the tank too quick.

And if I go for a deck wash go for the biggest pump you can basically fit and use that just for sea water and have a jet style head.

Would have been nice if I could combine somehow, oh well. Thanks.

Big strong deck wash was my first purchase when I bought my boat.  Never regretted it!

The freshwater options is a great one.

It is a godsend when you come out of the water from a dive/swim/snorkel and a quick wash with fresh.

You dry in 1/4 of the time as well as your shorts/wetty etc

What ever deckwashyou go for

What ever deckwash you go for fit a check vale (tap) in the pick up line befoe he pump that only opens when pump activated  , otherwise continual pressure from pickup line whilst underway damages the pump and  vastly shortens its life.

not sure how you would make a check valve work there?

A check valve has one direction of flow and thats the same whether the pump is running or its being forced up by water flow.

Should have a seacock though and all hoses below waterline double clamped.

Jabsco pumps

Sat, 2014-08-23 12:39

I just changed my deckwash pump for the third time, last two were jabsco so Im trying jhonson pump this time.I have a separate shower off a 60 litre freshwater tank and you would empty this with the deckwash in 3 minutes. I find using the deckwash at sea the more power the better as blood and ink can be a bugger to remove.keep the fresh for when you get out of the water and dont want a rash

I have decided to go for 2

Sat, 2014-08-23 19:58

I have decided to go for 2 systems.
50L of fresh water feeds to a 4L/min 70psi pump and smaller shower/wash head.
I will also run a 20L/min 70psi pump feeding from sea water for a deck wash.

I wanted all in one but after research, this cant be done.

I have also got an auto bilge which is massive, so will easily be able to pump all this water back out of the boat.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
Job done.
